Ah, this is funny. I just pulled out Riven today and installed it to play while I wait for Strong Bad's game to be out on Monday. I too have the old original five cd version, but I got the 10th Anniversary Edition a while back so I wouldn't have to play the cd rotate game.

I love the Easter eggs! I freaked my son out when I kept knocking on that door and the woman's face peeked out at me. He played it through recently and didn't know about that.

To me Riven is still the most beautiful, haunting and immersive of all the series.

You have to just appreciate greypiffle so much I think. Trying to help noobs must be so frustrating. Yet he is making videos so the community can benefit. I give 1000 Pellets to greypiffle. I mean when they are done baking that is:)

I am going on to using the Blender Game Engine to see how that works. I will use both Blender and TrueSpace. But my efforts will be mostly on Blender because of the engine.

Oh and today I downloaded the Google 3D thing. My I had stuff made so fast. But the catch is you cant export to Collida unless you pay for the pro version. Yuckies.

So Blender,TrueSpace,Google and oh yes the 3DMax Lite I also got today. My goodness, I think I need the rubber room.

vidroth, I second the motion on infant stages for tutorials. Extruding cubes. Now I have completed those tutorials up to the point of Quickie Materials and Textures. I did the cube dice that nearly fried my brain. Its those textures that are driving me crazy. Everytime I apply them my object gets textured and the rest of the items turn blank white. Who knows?

The UserKI had some useful functions that we did bring forward into the MOUL KI but maybe not enough of them and obviously some should never be brought forward. (BTW, I see this discussion like Ian Atrus and Alahmnat see it, that its a discussion about KI functionality and MORE and not about hacking it).
Personally, I like this idea. I would rather see a user age that was about skydiving, instead of letting people jump and fly everywhere.
Thanks,

In the case of creating a new self contained Hood. For the soul sake of graphical appeal continuity, would it be permitted to use Cyan''s rock and cavern wall textures?

That would be a no-no

This would violate the fifth rule: Writers must not use the intellectual property of others.

Cyan owns the textures and has rights to them, so just using it without asking them would be copyright infringement.

However, if you ASK Cyan before you put it in your age and they say yes, then it would be ok

I sorry to say that there is no one at the front desk anymore. And without a number of the people who used to work at Cyan, it is certainly not the same.
So, processing checks or credit cards by hand would not work, besides it would take several days to process the orders and I would think most people would want to hit the button and get in the game right away.
Generally, when someone publishes a product that want a bigger cut than a transaction fee. And I'm not sure how they would handle recurring subscription fees for something you've already bought. In any case, I'll ask them and see what they say.

Worst case scenario: the rights are not given up in part, and are with Gametap still with provisio Cyan can run the servers provided they're not taking in sufficient fundinjg to do more than pay for upkeep.. and that agreement has to be renewed and such, and worse if Gametap gets sold they have to be renegotiated. Or alternately go to Turner who may or may not decide to maintain them.

I'm not that worried. Likelihood is the range of the rights were scaled back from all online distribution to just some of it, meaning Cyan is free to make MORE with no worries, provided it doesn't reach a given profit level.

                                      Posted: Thu Aug 07, 2008 8:30 pm

I know.. I'm still not sure just how they expected to fund the game at the same time as having to fund their entire library and system on the same account.

$10/mo for just Uru woulda been normalish. But a small fraction of that based on players (many Gametap players never played Uru, so Cyan wouldn't get cash from their subscription fees) wouldn't have supported much. And moreso, it's evident it'd be a loss. Perhaps it was gonna be a loss leader to draw in the crowds. Either way it's evident MOUL was a big cash sink for Gametap in the hopes it'd draw the subscribers it didn't quite manage, in part because they couldn't dig the hole for it any deeper and Cyan had nowhere near the staff needed.

I think Gametap knew that MOUL was going to hurt, and knew it could drive them under, but took the risk anyways partly because of a few personal connections and supporters, and partly because they thought they could mitigate the damage.

And that's why I'm annoyed when people shout "they got what they deserved". Because yes, they did. They dared to fund a game that had already been dropped by the publisher due to subscriber/cash concerns, to rescue a company all but bankrupt, knowing full well going in it was going to cost them a lot of money they might or might not be able to support (quite possibly not, MMOGs are expensive) or alternately underfund it and get only a fraction of the game both sides were hoping for.
How dare they do something like that? They deserve to run into woes enough to shut down divisions and get sold off.

Here's to hoping that someone else ignores the threat of getting what they deserve and pick up other projects like MOUL in the future. And here's to hoping you blissfully ignore the fact that Cyan's near-shutdown and nearly moving out of game development was a "what they deserved" for reaching so far with something as different as Uru/MOUL.

Me, I'm gonna hope that there remains people ignoring "just deserts" for taking risks.. all the fun stuff in life involves a little risk anyways...

You're right, it's exponential. My bad. I'm thinking placement not independent. Trays of 48 choices apiece.

Even so, considering how many are tied up in just altering the state, if we assume that's true for the whole range.. it's still nowhere near enough to capture even a small fraction of the multiverse, implying it must be dedicated to certain ages by the nature of harvested crystals.

I'm gonna go with my "crystal age radio" thank you. It's either that or electrically stimulating bahro skin to make some sort of teleporter machine, and we don't want that, do we?

What is the rule on bumping on here?

On the *bump* thing, I don't recall bump-posts (Just a single bump, nothing else in the post), that means:
I don't read all the posts here, or
The forum is heavily moderated, or
We, posters, never bump just for the bump and always add something (constructive, new) or
It isn't necessary to bump, because questions will be answered (in some way), and we are patient

What does 3DAnalyze? How could that help?
(I'm on vacation with a laptop that hasn't the graphics problem, so I'm too lazy to check)
Did you already try the Heimdall-technique?*

*See some posts above: Heimdall in the Ubsisoft URU tech forum could help on this.
