You may on to something here.
In M5 Escher says the stones are made by the bahro's
abuse of the 'Art' (how does one abuse the 'Art'? kinda what gahn did
Gahn took snippits and phrases from existing discriptive and linking books
and then pasted them into the book he was writing?
So that would also mean all the bahro stones in MouL are also abuses of the 'Art' as well.
I've said so before, but not everyone agreed with me: Including fictional deaths along with real ones on the same memorial either cheapens the lives of the real people, or elevates the fictional deaths to a disturbing level of reality, taking IC too far. There was once a live memorial service in the Cavern which also mixed remembrances of real and fictional people. I did not attend. I don't like it, but some are fine with it.

If that's true, I think thats sick and should be changed. The same as in the last post.....mixing up real death and fictional deaths is simply sick.
You cannot 'abuse' the Art. The Art is a specific set of rules governing the use of certain materials in order to create a link to a pre-existing universe. What you do in order to create/travel through a link is either the Art, or it is not.

The D'ni Writer's links were made using the Art. Gehn's links were not. Atrus' links were not. Katran's links were not. Yeesha's links were not. The Bahro's links were not.

However, the Art is not the only way to go about creating a link. This can be done through a style similar to the Art, what Gehn, Atrus, Katran, and Yeesha did, which can open up a realm of things that are not possible using the Art. Or, you could use a different technology all together, allowing for one-time and both sustainable links to be caused/contained by different materials than the D'ni books and ink (such as one's biology or special stone-like material).
I thought mixing fictional and real deaths was in pretty bad taste as well. I do remember they had like, Phil Henderson and then Pepsi.

It has been mentioned before that since the Memorial is IC, naturally the "characters" and real explorers would be put together, since IC there is no distinction. If someone were to make an OOC website dedicated to explorers that have passed on, then yes, putting "characters" in would not be appropriate. But for an IC memorial, that's just how it is, and I think it's okay. I understand why it ruffles people's feathers, but I really don't think it's something worth being continually bothered by.

Plus, someone once mentioned that people like Pepsi would probably love having their names immortalized alongside characters' names, like the few explorers who have been mentioned in Sharper's journal :)

Just some food for thought.

I would agree. If I die and get my name put in an online game for hundreds to see, I don't give a flying hoot what the other people's names are.
