I've been frustrated since MO:UL began at how confusing the game is for new players. It seems most don't bother to watch gametap's orientation video, and you have to know enough to at least get a KI before you can go to the Beginner's or GoG Bevins.

So, in an effort to combat "newbie confusion" I've created a beginner's "crash course" website. It basically just gives you the bare essentials to get you started--how to get to your KI, how to use it a little, how to reach AeGura, A Beginner's Bevin, the GoG Bevin, etc. It's intended to be a bare-essentials starter guide for people who are still deciding whether or not they even want to hold on to the game and don't want to have to commit a lot of time to reading more lengthy guides.

So I am thinking I will try to get the web address onto the DRC Bevin Imagers--that way when players get to the Bevin and are confused about everything (and by now have forgotten that there was an orientation video they didn't watch), they'll see the link and have another option for getting help.

I was hoping some of you folks could check out the site for me and give me feedback on it. It's just a dinky little freewebs site: www.freewebs.com/uruguide.

Awesome job! =)

Just one comment: Use more linebreaks. When you have ten lines of text, it can be kind of daunting and makes people with short attention spans like mine zone ou-what a butterfly, where!?

Very nice initiative! I agree with Ai'ron though; more line breaks.

I would also suggest using bold text to bring attention to age names, directions, etc. Anything to break up the body copy and make the important parts stand out - we do seem to live in a world where everyone's attention span gets shorter every minute...

Excellent suggestions! You are both right, of course, and I will take both of your suggestions.

Carl,

Great job.

A couple of suggestions:

Even though you call it MO:UL online crash course, you the call it Myst Online in the text, maybe not everyone's familair with the link between Myst and URU.

Also a picture of the image to link to Gahreesen, so that they know they've got the correct book.

you should add to the IC and OOC section that the main reason many explorers talk IC is that in-game characters will only answer IC:)

Not a big deal, but I always thought "IC" meant "In Character" and "OOC" meant "Out Of Character". I can be "In Cavern" and be playing as if this were real or as if this were a game.

Still, nice orientation site.

Wonderful Guide, Carl. We'll add a link to it on the Guild of Greeters website.

Thank you very much :)

Superb work Carl. I'll definitely be using this myself when helping the newcomers to the cavern. 8)

Great work on this, Carl! I'll make sure to point new explorers to it whenever possible.

They do normally mean In Character and Out of character, but with regards to URU Live, they've always meant In Cavern and Out of cavern ;)
