The concept of DRC/Myst-related merchandise has been played with before, but according to Marie Sutherland, it didn't work the last time around. We'll see what happens, but if they released a line of products, would you buy them? More specifically, what would you buy? Detail the objects you'd like to purchase in your post.

I'd buy a mug and other practical items...BUT...

What I would LOVE to be able to purchase would be some high quality posters suitable for framing. Uru is such a beautiful game. I'd love to hang some of its beauty on my walls!

I would buy these sort of art items, and spend more for them than the cost of a mug or a hat!

A poster of Kadish? A landscape of a Relto? A landscape of the bone cage in Minkata...

I'd easily pay $40-$50 for a large (36"x40") poster suitable for framing. Heck, it doesn't even have to be an out-of-game render.

From an Interview with Rand Miller:

Quote:

Bob. Speaking of generating revenue, when will we be able to buy our DRC tee shirts and Bahro plushies?

Rand. <Laughter> Boy, oh boy, I would love a DRC tee shirt. Once again it's a resource item, a resource issue, and as soon as we kind of build those, there's two ways to make that happen...

Bob. Not in-game. I'm talking about e-commerce. I want to spend more money on you.

Rand. Right, right, right, that's the, that's the one that takes resources, too. That's the one I was talking about. There are two ways to do that. One way is to use the Cafe Press method which means that you have incredibly expensive stuff and you don't make too much on it. And the other way is actually design it yourself and build an inventory and ship it out and sell it yourself and that requires people and personnel and we are, you know, in electronic meter terms, we're pegged. We just don't have a lot of cycles left to put towards stuff. So it's not for lack of wanting things, in fact we get some good suggestions from fans not only on those things on, you know, things like tee shirts and plush toys, but stuff for in-game as well that is on a big list of things that we would love to implement, but it's just... boy... If someday if we put a few more cycles in we will start picking away at a few more of those things on the list.

I would like a poster or two; something I could frame and hang in my office at work.

I would also buy almost any replica object that tied into the game. A journal, KI, hard hat, etc. would be just great. Things I can put on my desk to spark conversations about this great game with my coworkers.

I actually wouldn't prefer a cone because there isn't anything specifically URU about them visually- they're just cones. You can get full-size ones in Home Depot if you want one... I'd buy a cone to support Cyan anyway, but it wouldn't be as useful to me in advancing URU's market share among my co-workers. (Hopefully it would have a DRC logo at least.) People don't "get" the cone thing until after they play and now with the cones mostly gone new players may never get it. :?

Y'know, if I was a crazy man, I'd say we could get someone to do screencaptures ingame, do a bit of touchup work, and sell the resulting posters for a mild profit for Cyan.

YEAH! Gosh, I keep hoping they will do this!

1. Posters - affordable ones, in the $20 range.
2. D'ni sunglasses
3. DRC crushable hat

and more...

YES - soundtracks of all MYST/URU music. I never got to buy the ones they did release before they stopped selling them.

And definitly posters of URU and Myst solo game locations. Both the $20 kind and the pricier framed/unframed Art posters. For a really good Art poster of - drat, forget the name - the night sky of that Age in Myst 4(?) where the telescope puzzel is - I wouldn't mind paying $50 or more. (Of course on Art posters make sure any logos or writing are very small, unobtrusive and don't block the view  )

The other big Myst collectable, as far as I know, is Myst to Riven. Sheesh, and they printed variations on the cover too. Too bad it's long out of print, I'd go through the discount bin at a bookseller - even with a low discount it'd be worth the price (if you were going to sell it, that is)!
