Hi all,

I've been out of the loop for quite some time now (I think the last time I played MOUL was when the last of the sparklies were revealed) and I just came across the letter from Cyan about MORE.

So I'm just a little confused now. I take it that the GameTap version of the game will no longer exist, and that we'll have to sign up with Cyan to play. Would that be an accurate statement? Does anyone have any idea when this switch will take place?

The plan is to start to move the content creation - the "Art" - to you

Does that mean player-created Ages? Any ideas on how that would work?

I probably have a lot more questions, I just can't think of any more right now.

Basically...

GameTap handed the rights to Cyan.
Cyan take advantage of this.
Cyan announce MORE.
MORE to coem later this year.
User created content will be integrated into the game.
Only good content and within the set restrictions.
No Cyan content will happen at present but there will be Cyan storyline.
3DS Max plugin will be released to help develop ages.
$50 a year subscriptions fee - cheaper than MOUL.
MORE hopefully released by christmas.

...and thats really the last few months. ;)

This is unconfirmed speculation, but I believe the reopening will occur in the following stages:

1.) A sign-up/billing site will be announced.
2.) The cavern will reopen with the same content that existed with Gametap.
3.) The Guild-based FCA Licensing panel will be "turned on" to begin issuing fan content licenses.
4.) A method for uploading and testing fan content will be established (analogous to the current ULM utility).
5.) The Guild of Maintainers will begin pre-approving fan content for Cyan's final approval.
6.) A mechanism for accessing fan content from the cavern will be established.
7.) A method for publishing approved fan content for general access will be established.
8.) Applications for fan-run servers (sub-shards) will be processed.

Cyan has announced intentions to have steps 1 and 2 completed by the end of this year.

Edit: Additional speculations...
a.) The sparklies will return to a one per month event.
b.) Step 5 will include a Maintainer version of the Ki which will likely be available only in the test environment.
c.) The test environment (step 5) will support multi-player testing.

Just want to point out for the new comers that determining what is "good content" will not be about whether it looks good or is deemed entertaining; it will be about the technically side, i.e. making sure it doesn't crash the server, cause computer explosions, rip holes in the space time continuum, etc.

Well a few of these might be missleading or I haven't heard them mentioned by Cyan in any way.

From what I have heard the GoMA is only testing the age to make sure it does not crash the servers. I have not heard if there will be any quality checks.
I have not heard officially if Cyan will be adding storyline.
It only $25 for 6 months. $50 a year is accurate but you will be buying it in 6 month blocks but I think even that is not in stone yet.

David did say it's a speculation but I doubt the testers will have an admin KI for testing MORE stuff on the MORE testing server. If Cyan allowed an admin KI to be released for the new MOUL code there probably would be no way to be sure it was not used on the actual game servers.

Actually, there's some serious discussion going on between Cyan and the guilds to leave that last part out of the black-list...
Some people seem to think it could be more err.. 'interesting' that way.
(I think they just watched 'Back to the future' one to many times, but that's just me)

I hope and pray that we maintain some levels of reality and equality wtih the existing ages in the new content, i.e highest quality textures, no weird mobeus trips and so forth, unless they are private ages held in one hood, i do not want such tings in my general download package. Creativity is great but i hope to continue the journey at the level it has begun. :)

I imagine there'll be just the check to make sure the age is stable and (relatively) bug-free.

However, I'd guess that there'll also be an age rating system so players will know how good a fan age is and be able to choose which fan ages they want to download and explore.

That way, all the ages can be accessed for anyone who wants to access them, even if they're not great, but individual players have the option to filter out the "endless flat gray plane" age and other examples of age-writing mediocrity if they find shoddy ages repugnant and unacceptable.

Yes, "good content" was a too generalised generalisation. ;)

I know this is going to get me in trouble with the "freedom of expression/speech" crowd...... While I know the QA performed by the GoMa is just for technical stuff - not the quality of actual content - I'm hoping that there will be a limit put on the "type" of content by the folks at Cyan themselves. It is my understanding that URU is a "family friendly" game and I would hate to see UCC Ages show up for downloading with Adult Only content ala Second Life. Some of the areas you can stumble into in SL are (IMO) not ment for the consumption of anyone who isn't a legal Adult. That said.....

Anyone know if the UCC - once downloaded to your computer - can be removed? My hard drive space is limited and I would hate to have to stop downloading new fan created stuff just because I can't delete the old.

PS: Apologies for derailing the thread....
