There's a lot more in this than I was expecting :D There are some cute animations, like the sliding stop when your character stops running

First 15 minutes of the game...

I went a bit further than what you see in the vid but glitched and fell off the world (and no relto book to save me :( )
DO NOT use the ladder next to the observatory if it's invisible.

also didn't find the running command so it's a bit slow -and sorry about the video quality

and: real time reflection of the avatar in mirrors !! what was it cut from Uru again ? Sharper's office ?

Hold 'Shift' to run. 'Q' quits (found that the hard way  )

Edit: If you open init\sound_init.dat in a text editor, you can re-enable the sound effects and music - change:
Code:
wavoff      # turns off wav files playing
midioff      # turns off midi files

to:
Code:
#wavoff      # turns off wav files playing
#midioff      # turns off midi files

'P' is pause
'O' toggles 1st person/3rd person view

Another discovery:

There's a command interface :D ...
It may be different on non-UK keyboards but when I hit the apostrophe key a '>' appears at the bottom left of the screen where you can type commands. The only commands I've discovered so far are two pretty handy ones:
save filename
load filename

Need less to say, these save your current game and load it. The filename doesn't seem to need any extension.

Hitting ' again turns the command line back off.

Ive been playing around with this for a pretty good while now and I believe Ive gotten as far as its possible to get. 1st of all pressing "o" switches the camera to first-person but you can only look around and not move. Pressing "i" opens the inventory and you can then select from either your right hand or left hand. Each item has two options (d)rop and (p)ack. Drop is self explanatory and pack puts the item into your backpack. As far as I can tell the flashlight cant be put into the backpack.

I havent figured out how to do the puzzle with the obelisks but it obviously has something to do with reflecting the light across them. This puzzle seems to be optional though as I progressed past it through different rooms which eventually prevented me from backtracking.

I've gotten to the earth/moon area from near the end of the degas video (which has one of the coolest uses of texture clipping) [spoiler]I've matched the earth to its rotation but no matter what I do I cant seem to match up the moon. I know where it's supposed to match up because I briefly get a sound as it passes the spot but it always seems to pass the correct spot rather than stopping on it.[/spoiler]
I've come to the conclusion that that certain puzzle is unsolvable, at least in this version of the demo but I could be overlooking something.

Overall I'm immensely impressed with the quality of this. Even though it's clearly a simple tech demo, the fact that it has dynamic lighting and 1:1 reflections is astounding. The period in which this was put together these kinds of things were unheard of. Realtime 3-D back then was completely unknown territory and to have this level of quality at this early a stage is really amazing.

Hey, can you remove the word "headspin" from the title? "Linda Blair Head Spin" is in the list of suggested videos.
Maybe "Plasma" instead?

Keys I've discovered so far :
Arrow keys Up & Down = Forward and Back and Left & Right = (yep, you guessed it) turn Left & Right.

"a" is action which mostly picks things up, but also pulls levers or presses switches, etc.

in your inventory ("i") "e" equips an item and "p" puts the item in your pack (think "e" for equip and "p" for pack) and "d" drops an item.

Space bar jumps

"o" (that's the letter o not the number 0 ) puts you in 1st person perspective but only to look. "o" to return back to 3rd person.

I do like the game, and I will perservere. Thank you.

EDIT - You beat me to it ... Grrrrr

Three questions:
1. What is the difference between the two programs?
2. The wrapper isn't necessary to play, is it? that's how it seems.
3. I can get up the stairs at the start. Why? Help moving on pls? i found a control panel, but what do i do?

1) One is the release build and the other (*_dbg.exe) is a debug build
2) The demo only knows about the Voodoo 3Dfx card for displaying graphics, which I haven't seen one for almost 10 years. So, unless you have such a card laying around on an old machine, you will need to install a Glide wrapper (which simulates the Voodoo card via DirectX) Glide is the 3Dfx programming interface before DirectX came out. The nGlide wrapper that I posted seems to work the best for me. But there are other Glide wrappers out there.
3) Its a puzzle.

I installed the wrapper, but without doing (i actually installed it before the demo was finished downloading) anything with nGlide it worked. Did just doing that do it? And is that why i don't see a cursor?
