"My God, its full of stars!"

Final recorded words of Dave Bowman,
[Reveal] Spoiler:
astronaut and sole human survivor of the Discovery mission to Iapetus, one of Saturn's moons (in the book) / the Lagrange point between Io and Jupiter (in the movie). The monolith, he discovers, is a stargate and he is transported through it to meet the race that planted the first monolith in the Earth's prehistory, to be judged and transformed, then returned to initiate phase 2 of the uplift of humanity
. The book explains it more fully than the film - a deliberate choice by Clarke.

Apparently the quote is not present in US copies of the film, or at least not as originally shown in the US. I cannot, at this distance in time, be sure whether or not it was included in the UK copies. It is quite central to the book, and is explicitly included in the movie sequel, which is enough to cloud my mind at least :)

I am really encouraged that the Riven developer qlab has given his help to the Starry Expanse team. I'm sure it will help bring the project to fruition sooner. I, for one, can hardly wait...
