RAWA,

I was digging around and I found the RAWA Signal.

Could you please teach me how to pronounce the new ages??

I need help with:

Negilahn
Dereno

Also, could you please tell me how to correctly say Kadish Tolesa?

Thank You!

I'm not RAWA, but here are my guesses...

* Negilahn -> 'e' like in send, 'i' like in sit, 'ah' like in far

* Dereno -> 'e' like in send

* Tolesa -> 'o' as in chord, 'e' like in seat (or Yeesha), 'a' like in far

I'm reasonably sure on the first two, quite less so about Tolesa; I think they used the 'ee' in it because they did the same for Kemo (which is Keemo, not Kehmo) but it's just an hypothesis.

Kadish is pronounced Kaydish, with the same a/ai/ay as Atrus/Aitrus; Yeesha uses his name in one of her speeches, so that one is for sure.

Is it a hard or soft 'g'?

Where would you put the accent?

Hard g; soft g in D'ni is "j".

As for the accent, I would put it on the second syllable (Neh-GIH-lahn, Deh-REH-no) but there are cases like Noloben where the accent falls on the last (No-lo-BEN). I still have to understand what's the rule for accent positioning in D'ni.

I still think that "Kaydish" is not the right pronounciation. I know, Yeesha apparently says so in one of her speeches.. but.. it's possible it's just the actress reading the name her way, like with Duck-nee. It's just the english/american way to say "a" .. like Atrus. However, the actual D'ni name is Aitrus.. and would be pronounced that way. Gehn never named his son, and so Anna named him, and she's from Earth and would therefore only need to say "Atrus".. as it's enough to get the desired sound.

So I still think it's KaHdish. But I could be wrong. And I also think it's Tolesa, with the "e" sound of "send". If you say it like that "KaHdish Tolesa".. it sounds way more D'ni, (remembering the words Gehn spoke in the school on Riven). But I could be wrong.

We have a signed letter from Kadish, so we know for sure it's Kaidish/Kaydish.

*yeah that*

We have multiple confirmation that the D'ni letters for Kadish are [k][ay][d][ih][sh].

Atrus, Aitrus, and Aytrus are all the same -- they all use the same D'ni letters [ay][t][r][uh][s]. It's confirmed in Myst IV.

Ok... I'm lazy and don't want to dig for the info.

Where could one find the translated D'ni alphabet?

/me is sensing a new obsession... finding and reading D'ni writing?

Origin: "RAWA Signal"

Its effectiveness is inversely proportional to the frequency of its invokation and the obviousness of its use, as explained here:
