Dangerous? Poor old Waldman. Have you never wanted to do anything that was dangerous? Where should we be if no one tried to find out what lies beyond? Have your never wanted to look beyond the clouds and the stars, or to know what causes the trees to bud? And what changes the darkness into light? But if you talk like that, people call you crazy. Well, if I could discover just one of these things, what eternity is, for example, I wouldn't care if they did think I was crazy. -- Henry Frankenstein

Shouldn't there be a thermodyanmics equation or something that says how much energy you get from putting a certain mass through a certain amount of time, pressure, and temperature?

Y'Fish had a very interesting comparison of Er'cana to sewage treatment plants:

Also, I'm in agreement with an earlier post about how the pellets shouldn't have too much energy; I think the closer we get to a certain percentage the score of the pellets goes up. Which is why it is very important to know both the score and the power obtained.

Oh, and YFish's observations are most likely correct. XD

My test yesterday of two ovens at 21|30|20 and two at 40|30|20 produced a bright orange effect, 60% meter, and an average of 811 points each (800-825).

Oh, good thinking. I bet the target goal is a certain percentage (not 100%). From the looks of my 60% pellets, I bet it's somewhere around there. The 75% bahrocave pellets are too hot. Has anyone so far had any meter reading above 75% that was less hot than the bahrocave pellets?

I just put a batch through at 45-30-25 and had an average output of 959.6. Also 60% on the meter. I'm guessing this is right. I bet the meter is calibrated for bahro cave pellets, not lake ones.

I've popped in a new batch of pellets, the ovens are set in a cascade starting from 1/50/50 to 4/50/50. Let's see what happens!

(Edit) 10 points. #include priceIsRightFailureHorns.wav

Holy cow, Kevin! Great score!

You should enter that into agrif's pellet score database (click here for the link).

I did a batch at 45 35 50 and had pellets 966,792,875 and 888.

What is the highest anyone has gotten the meter to go?

"Shouldn't there be a thermodyanmics equation or something that says how much energy you get from putting a certain mass through a certain amount of time, pressure, and temperature?"

No -- it depends entirely on the chemical composition, and how the chemistry is affected by different conditions.

Also, the energy that we're is not a simple measurement of what's in the pellet. It's a matter of what the algae can metabolize. Pouring gunpowder into the lake is not going to help. :)

Submit button isn't working...

I just did another batch, same recipe, and had a 968 average. I wonder why it went up.......

I'm seeing a standard deviation of 4 to 8 in each batch of five pellets.

Non-math-geek translation: pellets in a batch will usually vary by that much. If the average differs in that range, it's not hugely surprising.

Uh oh... I think I've lost all my pellets!

The batch was done... as soon as I got back in after the update...
I touched the blue button again, and one dropped through but did NOT appear anywhere else. [not in the tray]

So I fiddled around with things instead of asking first and pulled the lever. Now the dome clamped down over the remaining pellets and I can't do anything? What happened? Do I start all over again? Thanks!

I've been using this formula: 25-35-40

Gives a nice bright orange glow, about 65% on the meter, and averaging 875 per pellet.

I thought we were supposed to go for bright orange, not just how high we can go on the meter and the score?
