In examining this picture (by Dimension Traveler Calum's father) of the Guild Hall poster,

I noticed that the decorative feature labeled "stylized bas-relief dripstone" bears a strong resemblance to the metalwork motif seen in the Palace gates and the railings around the city, as seen in this picture from the guild of Cartographer's site.

I then looked up formations for Carlsbad caverns and found this,

So I think the metalwork motif must also represent such formations.
Perhaps the the fact that the formation is also tree-like may have had significance to the D'ni.
