That is a very nice post! Thank you for pointing it out. I added it to the list of cool stuff at the bottom of the list :)

Has anyone been in the Gahreeson fortress halways since the recent update? :o Looks like the start of a chain of discoveries related to the sun/moon addon in relto, though I have yet to find another one, or to understand what the symbol on my little shell means.

That's the D'ni for 1.

That's possible, but the design of it seems very informal. The bounding "box" is incomplete, and the vertical line extends noticeably through the top and bottom. Are there additional of these shells with subsequent numerical markings to support this claim? Or some other source? I have to say for now that the meaning of the symbol is inconclusive unless someone can add to this idea.

actually I was informed (while play via hood chat) that is it the symbol for the sun or fire etc... I don't know if this is true but that is what I was told.

Your best bet is the classroom coving. That's my source.

Someone else with the same conclusion.

I am going with the number one theory. I am also tentatively calling the object an altar because it looks like one to me.

I fail to see any stylization on any of the numbers on the coving or anywhere else. If you're simply referencing the general shape of the D'ni numeric characters, I'm sure most of us are aware of the D'ni numerals. But I just don't see any other sources supporting this stylized "fah".

I'm not saying I don't think it is a fah. In fact, given some of the other contextual elements, I'm leaning toward the fah as an explanation. I'm just saying I personally don't see the visual resemblance as conclusive in and of itself. For it to be that different from a standard fah, I have to think it's possible for such a general symbol to carry some other meaning.

Anyway, I'll relegate any further comments of mine on this thing to the new, more specific thread. I'm sure we'll understand all it more soon enough, but it's fun to speculate.

I think it's the D'ni number one, but we'll really have to wait until we get another one and see if it follows the sequence.

Think of the classroom as printed script and the symbol as cursive script. (Or a Dr's scrawl if you will). The coving is the template to the ornate sparklie. The next one will help in any decision-making, as Gadren said.

Yes, don't get hung up on fonts. Just because D'ni script was printed one way, doesn't meant that it's the only way. Look at 'proper' Hebrew characters versus the handwritten variety: completely different.

I agree. It's clearly the number one.

Texana, John Lynch and everyone, you are the most wonderful people in the world!

This is a great thread - very much appreciated. We have forum members who can't play as often as they would like, and they want to be in on the action too! This is very helpful to them.

I want some of those new pages so bad.

I kinda think that the symbol written on the thing that holds the sparkly (technical description, no? ) looks like a "primitive" D'ni number 1. Maybe the Bahro drew it.
