Hey,

I know this is an odd topic to discuss, but I thought of it while heading to the dump after the 4th of July manual labor spree, which is like opening your only birthday present and finding a collection of malignant Scorpions.

How complex was the D'ni waste management system? My best guess is that they created a linking book to some uninhabitable place and made all of the sewage system flow to the book.

Or did they even HAVE sewage? Couldn't they just give a book to each household or each neighborhood to remove their waste? Don't know how much it would cost to manufacture the books though.

Either way, the DRC needs to start finding them, My Hood is running out of places to store the empty soda cans and cheetos from our gatherings.

I don't think sewage is able to link, despite some of it being biological.

Presumably they had septic systems similar to ours; any unusable waste may have been carted to garbage dump ages using pack animals.

Ultimately, it would seem they had far less waste lying around than we do; they may not have had any need for landfills in the first place.

The idea of a linking-book toilet has made me chuckle on more than a few occasions.

But in all likelihood, they had some sort of sewer system going. There's clearly a source of clean water for the cavern - the hoods have an impressive waterfall as well as a sparkling-clear fountain. Whether that water has been treated somewhere is is flowing out of the rocks remains to be seen.

Considering Cyan's track record with bathrooms in ages, I doubt we'll be exploring this topic in too much depth. :)

I'll say. My bladder got very uncomfortable after eight hours of wandering around Myst :) . I was also too embarrassed to ask Atrus.

Now on topic if the D'ni have an age to harvest food, then they would definitely have an age for waste disposal. However I hope the age was not inhabited.

Everyone knows the D'ni went while linking. I mean, there's 2 minutes or so every time you link... plenty of time. ^_^

Only because it's been cleaned. They probably produced just as much waste as we do (on the same population scale, anyway). Factories, industries, and urbanization are bound to create massive amounts of waste.

The most logical conclusion is, considering the precious value of space in the Cavern, it would have been carted off to 'dump' Age. These are presumably unpleasant or inhosipitable environments where garbage was carted in and dumped in the Age, one way or the other.

Now, the real question is... How was it collected? Was there a complex sewer system? Garbage disposal teams? Suction pipes running from the potty to the sewage plant? How did they get it carted to begin with?

And it's a good thing, too... I know I for one don't much care for being too "deep" in this subject matter ;).

Nice job Tesaract, now Pinothy is dead, and we have nowhere in the Cavern to store them!
