To be clear, we have a D'ni dictionary, but it's not easily searchable, relies on one person/group of people to update, and is horridly cyan-colored.

And I have no idea how to set up a Wiki. :P

No, that's the Open URU wiki, not one for the D'ni language.

I support this idea!

I think it wouldn't be too hard to set up a Wiktionary-style website (I set up a wiki before, which goes to show that), but it would be most awesome if we could get an official Wiktionary division, for example http://dn.wiktionary.org/. Don't know if it's at all possible for a fictional language to acquire this, though...

edit: Actually, I just realized that dn.wiktionary.org would entail a D'ni-written dictionary of (potentially) all languages (including D'ni). Which is not really what we're looking for, I think, since we'd want an English-written dictionary of D'ni language. I guess starting our own Wiktionary-style website is the better option, then.

Check for Klingon. If a major website allows fictional languages, Klingon will be in there.

Quite frankly, the way Wiktionary is set up anyone who knows a translation will type it in. So we could start adding D'ni to English, and international players could start adding translations in their native language. And multi-lingual players could add it in whatever languages they speak.

I would suggest just using the existing Wiktionary for those words, but frankly some D'ni words don't exactly fit into English (like Taygahn, which theoretically means love but actually means a particular kind of love.) Other languages might have words that fit the concepts better than English.

Right. The key part is that it's searchable and people can add to it. The raw sources used on the existing dictionary could also be added.

It should also include sources for the words (kind of like the etymology of real languages), just like in the existing dictionary (at least I assume that's the one everyone is talking about).

Also, I think it should be called D'nictionary ;)

This would most likely be in the realm of the D'ni Linguistic Fellowship which might appreciate your contact. It is the organization working with Dr. Watson on translations here:

Is the DLF still active? I haven't seen them around the cavern. Maybe I've just missed them.

The DLF is dead. I've seen little done there and I don't expect much to come from there while OS Uru takes RAWA's time.

Perhaps talk to chucker and see if he would be willing to host this as part of MystLore?

Does anyone know what happened to the old topics on the DLF forum? Most of them seem to have lost the contained posts, leaving empty shells of topics...

I started the DLF Neighbourhood both with GameTap and again now with MOULa. The DLF site was mostly run by Domahreh, but I haven't seen him lately.

The forums have slowed down, sure. But I wouldn't call the DLF dead quite yet.
