I disagree, but regardless, what’s so sacred about those items that they couldn’t be made available now? I can (maybe) understand not releasing the First Week or the Mystralia shirts, but the Sharper hat or the Varsity jacket? Why having the Katran tunic available but not the Atrus one?

Sharper's Hat and the Great Tree Jacket were clothing rewards that were picked up in POTS and ToDni. The areas they were found in were reworked for MOULa (The Spyroom, Great Tree Pub, and K'veer respectively) with those items removed. You didn't get them in MOUL because you weren't supposed to get them. They were never available in MOUL, thus they are not available in MOULa.

By the same reasoning, it can be inferred that there should be no Fan Content in MOULa, because there was none in MOUL; the sparklies should appear one per month, because they did so in MOUL; and the client should not be Open Source, because it was not so in MOUL.

I agree, MOULa was always meant to be MOUL as it was at the end of GameTap, with no DRC (I can probably find a quote for that, from RAWA). However, the first month T-shirt was expected to be available, but was borked as no-one could pick it up from the table, so was left turned off.

There were no bots or fan-made shirts during GameTap. Do find me a quote that MOULa is meant to be MOUL as it was at the end of GameTap forever and ever, please.

RAWA wrote:

- "No User Created content... yet" --> there is

- "No DRC member visits" --> RAWA and Rand showed up

- "No ResEngs" --> there are, sometimes

I didn't mean to imply that it was never expected to change (although there was no open source at that time), only that at the outset it was to be as close as possible to how MOUL was when it closed, so that meant certain items were intentionally absent, as Chloe has said. Cyan were, I think, reserving the right to reintroduce things at a later date in the hope that they could deliver new content themselves if conditions ever became right.

And there still have been no DRC member visits. Not since Kodama and Sutherland dropped in just before allowing the public back in seven years ago.

That makes sense. Though it could be argued that those clothings are already part of the ‘story so far’. When Cyan started saying “the future of the Cavern is up the fans”, it sounded (to me) as an implicit admission that they wouldn’t be producing new content for the foreseeable future.
Maybe (some of) those items could be activated when fan Ages finally make it to MO:ULa 8) .

Alright, we didn’t get Tony Stark, but Robert Downey Jr. passed by :P .

That's entirely possible. I might think that Cyan would prefer that to happen in one or more of the "Intangible" ages rather than in purely "fan" ages, since they were at least Cyan WIP at some point, and it would neatly tie things off. But that's just my opinion.

Heh! In Fact Kodama's comment was maybe even more nuanced - to use your analogy, if Tony Stark does drop by, he'll just be Tony Stark, not Ironman.

He's the guy with the money, not Ironman. Stark would be very much welcome in the cavern. As long as he isn't introducing the Hulk to the city, that is. The city is in bad enough shape without him going on a rampage. :P

I don't remember where I read it, but Cyan's statement about that sort of thing was something along the lines of, "We plan to allow fan content and to allow Ages we planned to make but never completed to be made by fans and added to the game. If we ever go back and make our own version of them, the fan version will simply be explained away as an instance." They've always kept the door open for a return to adding their own content sometime in the misty future. When he's been questioned about Bahro, Rawa declined to answer because there's always a chance they might create the Ages that give some of their backstory.

True. When RAWA visits, he uses a normal avatar he made the usual way, not the Dr. Watson avatar from when the game was live.

Anyone who played with the bots knows that e.g. the Great Tree jacket, Sharper’s hat and Atrus’ tunic are in fact present but unavailable.

I think you're misunderstanding Rand's quote.

No, actually.. It was a direct response to people who were asking if we could have access to Sharper's hat, Atrus' tunic, the Great Tree jacket, the Maintainer's suit and Varsity Jacket. At the time, I was one of the people asking.

My understanding, thus far, is that the only reason we cannot get these things into wardrobe is just due to an oversight--- nobody at Cyan has noticed they aren't availaible, or else hasn't found time to make them available. It is a small thing.. not even a tech issue, just a fan-interest item.

Still, tho.. I can agree, over the Res-eng miner helmet-- it denotes someone who is an on-staff Cyan official; so it shouldn't be publicly available. To be honest-- I'd rather have a fully functional KI light, than a spotlight-miner-helmet.
