BlueLightNight, those were my exact symptoms to my as yet uncured ail. My sympathies and apologies go out to you.

Unless...

Are you able to enter the tree without it crashing? Are you able to leave the cleft? Because if so, then I'm going to pout. My compy will inevitably crash the moment I descend the tree's stairs.

Marentan, the problem with integrated graphics is that it is not powerful enough. If you wish to run Uru you should look into buying a $30-$80 video card.

The Express series isn't just mobile. I've got an Intel 945GTP motherboard that has 950GMA graphics. It runs great with Vista and Aero and most games.

Hi all - I've been reading this thread about Intel chipsets and I have some questions I hope are not totally off topic. I have no knowledge when it comes to what is inside a PC. I got mine with the help of a co-worker who works in IT and does consulting on the side. I told him what I wanted it to do and the price range and the result was the following (from the DxDiag):

Dell Dimension 2400, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.20 GHz, 1G RAM, with Directx 9c. Graphics Card is a Radeon 9200SE. Under system devices it says I have an Intel 8284 SG/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller - whatever that means.

My questions are these - how do I determine what type of chipsets I have? Is that something I even need to worry about? The computer worked/works great for Prologue - UU - all of the Myst games 1 through 5 and URU:CC. Will it also work for the new URU Live or should I be thinking about upgrading? If I need to upgrade - what should I upgrade to?

Again - I apologize if I'm totally off topic. But I'm such a schmuk when it comes to computers - and you all seem so knowledgable.....

Thanks for your time -

Right topic, but

Odd. You have both onboard graphics and a card. To find out which one you're using for your display, right-click on your desktop and select Properties from the bottom of the menu that appears. Click on the Settings tab at top right. You'll see a Display: line in the centre of the screen. What does it say?

Rusty - it says I'm using the GeCube Radeon 9200SE for my plug and play monitor. It also shows two other smaller monitors (which I don't have) - number 2 is set for the Intel and number three is set for the Radeon as secondary. Anyway, guess I'm using the Radeon not the Intel - which one is the better one?

It shows that you (?) didn't disable the onboard chipset when you added the card. You need to turn that off in the BIOS.

My card also doesn't seem to be listed in your analysis, Marten. I've got a 945GM of the Express chipset family. I'd like to ask if you'd think that would work, but it doesn't anyway, so.
Ben

I have this exact same graphics card in my laptop, it ran Myst V at quite a high settings level and excusing many graphical rendering errors in URU:CC it could run that happily as well. Since the new graphics engine in UL has lots of the additions from Myst V as well as having ths supported cards.

read more here about my 945GM exploration

I wouldn't be too quick to assume that if it works with Myst V it'll work with Uru Live... Uru Live's code is based more on Uru:CC than on Myst V, and I've no idea how many improvements managed to get back-ported to the current code base. At this point, it's possible that said chipset will run Uru Live with no problems, but I definitely wouldn't go so far as to say that it will until the final system requirements are listed.

I had a computer that worked with Myst V, but had many graphics problems in Uru: CC and I finally got to a point I could go no further.

Case in point.

My daughter has the same machine with a dell crippled bios and no agp port. Although we've set the shared memory as low as possible, we were not able to disable the onboard graphics altogether.

I think Kero's MB is different since the Radeon is an AGP card. If you have both onboard and a slot you ought to be able to turn onboard off.
