Perhaps we could have some portion in the storyline...keeping folks safe etc. as did the old maintainers?

I think this isn't the right place to discuss about this point.
There's a thread about the IC side of the Maintainers on the AoG forums In-Character Planning
We've talked also about "keeping folks safe" in other threads (such as Strcture, always in the Maintainer's Section on the AoG forums

Updated. There will be a Maintainers' meeting shortly after the end of the current episode. Date and times are posted above.

Also, there is a new discussion about a potentially giant project, in which we would like to include many, many other contributors to the cavern restoration efforts. We are discussing the possibility of recreating the Books of Commentary in a fresh, new way. This would touch on information about the Ages and the Cavern gathered by many other organizations (DZS, GoTechnologists, D'ni Linguistic Fellowship, and many more!).

We would greatly love to discuss these possibilities with the other organizations. It is our hope that with our combined efforts, we can present all the hard work that these various organizations have done to the DRC. We hope to have these works eventually be incorporated into the Cavern itself, so that the Commentary can be accessed while you are actually visiting D'ni or the Ages. (Pipe dream? Maaaybe. But can we dream big? Heck yes!)

We wholeheartedly encourage people from any organization who might be able to contribute to the commentary/restoration notes to please come by this thread on the Assembly of Guilds and join our discussion. We want to make this a joint project, one that all the organizations can work together on to create something really spectacular.

This is still very much in its infancy. We will be contacting people too, but we don't know everyone. If you are interested, WE WANT YOU! Come join our discussion!

Thanks, Scyrone. I already contacted TG with regards to getting the Guild of Technologists on-board. The Age Researchers sound like they'd also be an awesome fit for this project.

Updated to replace the "Recruitment Policies" discussion with the revised draft of the placement form discussion.

Public announcement from me only, peoples

I'm posting this mostly because I'm getting really tired of running damage control.

I, personally, do not agree with the idea of limiting anyone's entry into any guild. Most of the people I've met in the Maintainers Supporters also don't feel that it is right to restrict entry (like, 99.9% of us). I don't believe there's any intent in the guild at this time to do so, but when that initial discussion was created, there were people who wanted to do that. It's embarrassing and I don't like having it in our forums, OK?

Between myself and some of the other folks in the forum, we have written up a placement form. It's *not* an application, and we will not be denying anyone membership (like we could! We're not even official, and I don't expect that to happen any time soon).

Really, it's just so that we can get to know you and know your interests, so we can hook you up with the right people when you get started. It's not official. Nothing's official, it's all under discussion. If you don't think that even having a placement form is a good idea, that's fine, but it would be nice to have actual contribution to the discussion rather than yelling and screaming in places where it can't be addressed easily.

Please, before anyone else goes jumping to conclusions, please take the time to read through our discussions thoroughly. We are really very friendly people. We talk things over in detail. We listen. We don't bite, and we want you to come play with us.

Ian Atrus on membership requirements.

This might help to resolve the current divisions on this subject. Personally, I think that everyone has to enter into some form of commitment to the guild they join, especially since joining a guild in the first place isn't mandatory.
