"User-friendly" is something of an overstatement. But it's possible to learn to use it.

By the way, the previous exchange of questions came out a bit confusing, so I want to reiterate:

Narym wrote: "I think its possible to explore the Ages in some way OUTSIDE uru and MOUL, but not in the game atm"

That is correct. You cannot explore fan Ages inside MOUL. You can do it with a patched copy of Uru:CC -- that's what ULM is about.

I could also argue that it's possible to learn how to land the Space Shuttle blindfolded ;).

I get the feeling that this might be an understatement?

With the Ahra Pahts project, they are actually working in groups, so you may be able to help a group with that and yet steer clear of the "User-friendly" Blender. They will need people for all kinds of stuff, not just using Blender. :)

(Maybe Blender was named such for a reason? You know, the whole "mangling" thing.)

Ah, but it is. :P Extremely difficult, but I'm sure it's possible. ;)

Blender needs a lot of time and patience, but you end up wishing everything worked the way it does. It's a little like driving stick when every other program you've ever used is on automatic. EVERYTHING is pliable in Blender.

Using Blender is about as user-friendly as running a nuclear reactor (with a similar tolerance to errors), except all the labels are in Russian.

yeah, now look what you have done :P
lol

So are there no known tools being made by anyone?
Its not unexpected, making such a tool would be a lot of work and effort, not to mention knowledge of such things. If i had that knowledge i would of started work on one straight away... lol

Without something to actually make ages that people can actually understand, i dont think the writers guild will take off very well for a long while :P lol
Which would be a shame with this big gap and all. Better start reading that horrible looking tutorial on blender ¬.¬" *sheds a tear*

are there any programs we could use to pair with blender?

Python and Blender work together.

If you've had any programming experience, you'll pick up Python fairly quickly; it's just a matter of learning its terminology. As for the Blender tutorial, I'm working through it now and I love it!

"So are there no known tools being made by anyone?"

Blender (and the Uru plugin for it) is a tool being made. By someone.

If you want a way to create 3D models which isn't Blender, I can promise you that they're all a tradeoff of power and confusion. Any full-fledged 3D tool is hard to use. A simple tool can't do much.

If you're looking for an easy way to construct an Age... perhaps out of pre-built pieces or models... then I'm sure those will come along in time. People will create those tools and models -- *using* Blender. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's a *second* step, and the Writing community is still working on the first step.

Python is ridiculous, BTW. My friends and I have a joke that you don't actually code anything, it just reads your mind. (We're used to languages in which you actually have to declare your data types and such.)

If you mean "ridiculously awesome", then yes. ;)

As long as you don't care about how fast your code runs ;D
