Ah, Turjan, I'd love to believe you. The truth is that the making of music requires more than tools. It takes a designer's touch. I like listening but I know I can't design it.

Sand and water are available all over the world, and yet there are still very few people who use those free materials to make sculpture. So, I'll support your guild by playing any music you allow me to for Uru parties but the actual music-making is up to you.

Ho! thanks LordChaos! i take that as a nice compliment !

in a certain way i'm agree with you ... as said the great french composer of 17th century " St Colombe" : "The Instrument is NOT the music"

but we are fews musicans in the cavern with the singer of "Cavern Choir" and Dohmahreh ... Thork, Calam, MisterCloak , Mysthral, jeffWise, Ansel, Linkizcool linkimp......

sorry maybe i forgot some one if it's fact please Reply to this calling...

I feel alone...i want to share music with other Musicians or Not musician...(to be a music listener it's to be a kind of musician no?) this forums is for SHARING only....and make alive a complet music lore created by a comunity....

Ce qui pourrait être intéressant, c'est de faire une collaboration via mp3, ou mieux, en AIFF en fait. On pourrait faire notre part sur l'instrument qui nous est le plus comfortable.

A musical collaboration would be nice to do, either via AIFF or mp3 - althought the former would be better. We could play the instrument we are most comfortable with.

What tools/software is there (for free) that I could play around with?

In the past I've messed around with Demo versions of the various eJay programs but I don't think they are going to give us the type of sound we would look for.

If I had the software and the time to learn to use it well (time will be available after the beginning of April ;)) then I would gladly try my hand at making music.

Yes AIFF is a format for sound - high quality versus mp3 - low quality

A guide to audio formats:

WAV (Wave) uncompressed
AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) Apple's version of WAV

Apple Lossless (ALAC, m4a) lossless compression, like ZIP
FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Compressor)
Windows Lossless (WMA)

mp3 (lossy compression, variable)
AAC (Apple lossy format)
WMA (Windows lossy, yes, this is confusing as lossless and lossy have the same extension)
OGG (Ogg-Vorbis, used in many games, supposed to be better than mp3)

General note: Save all intermediate audio steps in lossless formats, preferably WAV. When the project is finished, save one lossless, save another in the lossy format. Every time you save a file in a lossy format you lose more data. So, you record as WAV or Audaicity's AUP and use that to save your work as you go along. When you're done, export the project in the format of your choice.
