Anyone interested in gettting a team together to develop a basic, drag-n-drop type Age-creator?
For those with the skills, Agesa can be created using Blender and scripts and complicated geeky stuff. What I envisage is a way that less skill users can create a good quality, stable Age with combination of wizards and drag-n-drop, using a library of 3D 'symbols' (I know symbols are 2D - but what is the name for 3D 'symbols'). Such Ages may not be up to Cyan standard or complexity, but would still be hiQ and visitable. Also, if poss the tool would output files that would allow capable designers to edit and enhance these Ages using all the complex stuff. It could be used as a kind of story-board, where people can 'jot' down their ideas for and age and pass to someone else to actually do the creating.
I think a first version could be written in VB as a demo sort of thing - after all, performance is nt required here really.
Any thoughts?
That would be cool. I see a set of three tools.
'Hood generator - A bunch of effects that you can turn on and off to custom make a 'hood, also insert one texture for the lights (although there would be presets).
D'ni Cavern - Has the set bridge, railing, and stairs types and you can just mold them into the landscape (which would be made by you or perhaps randomly generated). A lot of textures and all would be pre-set to D'ni-ish looks to save time/effort.
Unique Age Creator - The most complex. Accesses some kind of [online?] database of textures that people can add to. Also has terrain modifiers and some set models (certain buildings, things that pop up in a lot of Ages).
It would definitely be hard, though.
