Hello all, I have always been a big fan of myst. However I never got into Uru Live because my PC was too old to play it. I tried the trial version with gametap and it ran pretty laggy for me.
Anyways, I am planning on getting a nice new computer and I already bought the Uru: Complete Chronicles, it should get here in a few days. Just wondering if I should have waited for the Open Source to come out, and it would have been free... or will new players still have to own Uru: Ages beyond myst in order to play the open source?

No, you won't need any offline version of Uru for OS Uru.

But, think of it on the bright side: you HAVE supported Cyan to some degree...

(Speaking of which, What are they making? Besides Myst for the Iphone touch or whatever... you know, new content?)

But yeah, DISCS ARE INVALID.

And plus, you'll have something to play while Cyan gets OSMO underway.

Shorah GMan and welcome to the community.

While the locations and some of the story line may be the same between the off-line and on-line games there are enough differences to make it worthwhile (for me at least) to have and play both. The off-line game (Ages Beyond Myst plus To D'ni and Path of the Shell) was made for single player so that not all would be lost when UBiSoft shut URU Live down the first time. When MO:UL was born Cyan returned a couple of the Ages in URU:CC to the multiplayer form they were originally intended to have. Consiquently you won't get exactly the same story line and puzzels (except for the "core" Ages of URU:ABM) in the on-line version. You will also be getting some new Ages and "extras" that weren't in the off-line game.

So - go ahead and enjoy URU:Complete Chronicles while you wait like the rest of us for URU on-line.

See you in the Cavern. :D

OOOH, a Half-Life fan, are you, GMan? Just a guess...

Enjoy yourself.

I'm actually recommending to a friend of mine who just got into Myst to wait until OSMO comes out so that he's not just retracing his steps when he solves the puzzles there.

So, whatever you want. As Kero said, there's lots more in OSMO that isn't in Uru: CC. If you're itching to play it, then by all means, enjoy CC. I'm playing through it again myself.

Here's another way to look at it. If you enjoy playing through this kind of game at your own pace with no spoilers, you may actually enjoy Uru:CC more as a first time experience of Uru. You will have to replay most of it in the online version, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. As one who found something new in every replay of the game (and I have probably been through the ABM ages upwards of a dozen times), I am looking forward to doing it all yet again in the future.

Download Drizzle and check out some fan ages.

Arah Pahts, Maw, to name a few. Some ages are good, some are great :)

Also convert your Myst V ages over :) You won't regret it.

I'd like to have the Crowthistle and MOUL ages but i lost my MOUL and can't find Crowthistle.

Hopefully i'll learn blender and PyPRP and make some of my own. (Ontop of my college work)

Yeah, I'm a huge Half-Life fan. I love physics (I'm a physics major in college), so I figure what better game for me than to play as a theoretical physicist running around a giant science lab whacking aliens with a crowbar. xD

Half-Life and Myst have got to be my two favorite game series of all time.

and ya, I think I will enjoy playing it single player first and then redoing it in the online version. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I actually think new people shouldn't play CC, because it may ruin some surprises when playing online, plus they will have to do all the CC things again.

I don't know. In my experience playing with others online tends to spoil things for me... but that's mostly from an MMORPG perspective.

Personally, having played offline first, I appreciated exploring alone first but I'm left wanting MORE. I can see ways in which groups could work together and it makes me sad for what I have missed.
