October kind of put the spirit on hold in most of us. As it were Cyan was going to serve us with a working game for a fee. Then maybe nothing. Now things are more uncertain. There are work to be done by all willing and able to even get URU up and running.
But the Genesis age Shevek dreamed up is really promising, and has a purpose.
I'm just curious about the status of Genesis. You know it is highly dependent on you, Shevek, to lead. Right now is maybe not the best time, with so much uncertainty about tools, etc.. But a I sort of envision a project site with a status and interest thread here. The Idea of the community running an age like this is great. A better place to find info and introduction than the confusion of various hoods. I saw many things that I needed when I started to play URU in MOUL. For instance, how do I find explorers that want companions to explore and solve the riddles in an age. I wanted to solve the Tsogal puzzle but could not because I could not find explorers that had not yet made a run. Likewise for Ahnonay. How to find explorers to work with on an age was next to impossible for a latecomer to MOUL. Genesis could hold bulletinboards at gathering spots for various purposes, without rushing people past important discoveries in the game.
Oh! and this is also why I have changed opinion towards solo starting in the cleft. I forgot about the wonders of discovering and using the first linking book in good ol' MYST. To start in Relto robs the new player of that experience, and may also rob the player of the insights of the truly wondrous game of URU, and reduce books to game mechanics.

My vision for an IC URU start is:
1. Solo start in the Cleft, to get into the revelation.
2. Link from the newly found relto to Genesis to get into the spirit of the new D'ni rising and meet the multiplayer environment.
3. Get into gear with the "old" City in the deep, with hoods and all...

PS! Im still not happy about the name Genesis, but I rather see it exist than change the name.

Why did you leave me on Genesis?!

...err, sorry, I couldn't help it.

Back on topic - Genesis Age? Sounds fun. Is it like a new Ae'gura?

I e-mailed Shevek regarding this project once back in December and one a couple of days ago. No anwser so I presume without hearing that this project is dead. But not hearing anything does not make it so, its just an educated guess.

I see! But maybe it can be resurrected in some form further on.

I was also very excited about this project. Shevek just sort of disappeared on us when the announcement was made that Cyan was no longer pursuing URU. I had hoped that Shevek would show up again after Cyan announced the move to open source.

Thought this was about asking Genesis (the band) to provide a song or two for the game.

It would be cool actually, especially if it was a song from their Peter Gabriel days.

(What else can I say, not having a clue of this "Genesis" age?)

That takes me back! Early 1970s - Selling England by the Pound - Foxtrot - Lamb Lies Down on Broadway .... :D

I remember the Sega Genesis too. It was the Sega Megadrive in the UK - and I still have one somewhere.

The Genesis might have BLAST PROCESSING, but it doesn't have SuperFX! I'd rather play Uru on the SNES :D

Oh yeah! Can you imagine an intro video showing scenes from various ages with Firth of Fifth or Watcher Of The Skies playing over it? That would be awesome. :D

To the topic, has Shevek been contacted and asked about Genesis?
