Considering that it will all be Open Source now, I don't think it is too unreasonable to ask for widescreen support.
But, please please please make it true widescreen support, not just widescreen resolutions.
The FOV also has to be adjusted. I have a new 16:9 monitor and I cannot tell you how disappointed I was to find out that I had to settle for everything being stretched or black bars on the sides, or run in a window.

If anyone has questions concerning this I would be happy to help, anything to get native widescreen support into Uru.
It's actually so very simple to do from a programming standpoint that I seriously can't imagine why so many applications still don't support it.

There is a widescreen patcher, but all that does is allow widescreen resolutions. The actual graphics still get stretched.

MOUL already has widescreen support.

Sometimes the FOV seemed a tiny bit off on 16:10 monitors, but yeah, the MOUL widescreen was *far* better than the hacks available for CC. I'd imagine that if Uru gets Open Sourced, it would be with the codebase that included the real widescreen support.

It doesn't really. Even when the resolution is set to your monitor's native resolution everything looks squished.

Maybe I was just used to it, but this is what MOUL looked like to me, didn't look all that squished to me:

That is definitely squished; everyone in that picture is unnaturally tall and thin.

Time to install CC then, been so long since I've looked at what characters looked like there, guess I was just used to seeing people look skinny. :D

Using the KI as reference you can see that it is perfectly round. So that picture is definitely not squished.

The KI and other overlays are fine, but the 3D stuff is not.

Ok, here we go, matched as closely as I can get:
MOUL Arrhae @ 1920x1200 (16:10 widescreen)
CC Arrhae @ 1600x1200 (4:3, not widescreen)
CC Arrhae @ 1920x1080 using UniWS (16:9 widescreen)

So it looks like yes, they got the widescreen right in MOUL. As you can based on these screenshots, in the group picture I posted above, if the widescreen was incorrect then people would have been extraordinarily fat, not skinny.

Edit: Added CC w/WS hack
Edit 2: Updated CC screenshot to include KI.
Edit 3: Added aspect ratios beside image links.

The CC Arrhae:1600x1200 looks pretty good to me.

The question: is AntiStrange using the wrong resolution
or is, his problem something else ?

The 1600x1200 screenshot isn't a widescreen one, I just used that one to show that the FOV was corrected in MOUL widescreen to match the FOV of CC non-widescreen. The Widescreen CC shot is quite stretched. I assume this is what AntiStrange is talking about, since while CC has a third party widescreen patcher, MOUL didn't, seeing as widescreen support was built in natively.

That may be true, but unless there is a way to download that version, it's a rather useless point to mention for those of us stuck with other versions (like CC). I've personally tried the hacks to get it to display fullscreen correctly on my 1600x1050 monitor (including using UniWS), but it's stretched.

It is not useless info since it is what this thread is about!
Q: Can we build widescreen support into open source URU please?
A: No need. It is there in the MOUL code as opposed to the URU ABM/CC code.

Using UniWS, I find that while the on-screen sprites are stretched (The mouse pointer, and the dialogs mainly), the actual view itself is at the right FOV to fit just fine - IE, round objects on screen are still round.
