While it's not much consolation, as it's an error, there's still something to be said, since there may be a server online that's generating the error message that gets recieved by the user...

edit: or maybe the server generating the "Welcome to Uru!" message got taken down...

Actually, what that says is no server(by that name) exists.

What it means is that your broadband connection from your pc to the Cyan server is down. That isn't new, unfortunately.

Close but no cigar... This actually means that the DNS entry for file.urulive.com cannot be resolved. Previously, this succeeded yielding an IP. Once this is complete, it's very poor at handling errors involving malformed data, etc. You usually don't realize something is wrong unless it happens at lookup time.

I speak from experience. I used to be able to generate that error at will. :)
You are technically correct about DNS resolution and I am correct in practice. My nildram (ISP) connection was in two stages, and if I tried to do URU without fully bringing my broadband up, I got that error.

Ah, we're both right. I understand now. Your explanation goes through a route I never had the option to explore. ;)

I think Teedyo comes closest to the correct answer in this case. Either the box (hardware) or server (software) that that IP points to no longer exists. While it's true this can be a DNS issue in some cases, it doesn't appear to be the issue here. OTOH, this may have something to do with the server move recently, (in which case it would be a DNS issue, but of a different nature)

To me it was unreachable rather than non-existent.

I was looking at my cause, rather than the error itself. I didn't know about DNS lookup when I had the error originally (and didn't think of it when I posted earlier).

DNS lookup error means the domain name can't be found. This usually means that the domain by that name does not exist, but if the computer can't get to the domain name server, it'll usually give the same error.

It's like seeing red things in a room. Usually, this means the things in question are red(domain does not exist), but you'll get the same effect if you wear glasses with red lenses(bad connection to DNS server).

This is a truly pathetic thread. We are really desperate--what a reach. :D

Well, with nothing to talk about, it makes sense we spend our time talking about nothing

But yet nothing becomes something because it occupies space in the database.

So, we're living in a Seinfeld episode?

In that case, can we use a lot of anime in-jokes and be high-school girls with psychadelic hair color? I prefer Lucky Star to Seinfeld.
