Chogon says they are on the same track... (1/22/10) ...no change of plans.

That they have a desire for an outcome does not mean it will happen. However Rand and crew, past and present, have an investment in Uru. I think that attachment will eventually move Uru into open source. I keep making my best guesses as to when and have yet to be right.

In the mean time one waits or explores other worlds. One can build ages with the tools we have for a Plasma/MOUL engine, which I sort of see as major league. Or they start in the minor leagues and build for SL and the Hypergrid. Or... one posts here about whether or not it will ever happen.

Until Uru happened because fans took off on their own and made something happen. They got farther than Cyan ever expected. There was more support and effort put in than I think Cyan and crew ever expected. I don't know how similar this incarnation will be. I think doing more of what worked last time is a better idea than waiting and debating whether Cyan will ever do it for us and when.

/me waves Rip & Release sign with Licenses Now on the back side.

Since MQO chapter 1, where Cyan was working on, is now in an open beta state, that might mean some "spare cylcles" for Cyan
I hope that Cyan will be able to use their "spare cycles" well and that something MORE in an open source environment will happen within a reasonable time frame from now, as Rand indicated obviously still is the goal and objective.

The Cones wait for our return. They wish to be kicked, pushed and put in obscure places. (so off Topic just Ignore slider)

Not that I want to be a killjoy, but I can't imagine MQO will require any less maintenance and continuing production of new content than MOUL did, even if they have MQ's own people doing most of the work. Additionally, many of those spare-time cycles needed are from people who do not even work for Cyan any more.

Don't let this extinguish hope, just temper expectations.

The news I see from this latest message is that Cyan at least is making the effort to let us know they're on track. This is different from the silence that we had before. Perhaps Cyan has learned something about community management from this.

Yeah, that!

We can hope... or they might be poking fun at this thread... :)

Cyan is waiting for ONE PERSON to finish the code, why not just release what is releasable and then
release the rest of the code when this ONE PERSON gets around to it?

Software peter princable; heavy sigh is the culprit here, Cyan probly can't find the guy or he is R.I.P.
I mean it don't take this long to change or 'OK' a few lines of code! So why not release it NOW ? Cyan?

SPP sure has URU tied up tight as a turniquik (spelling).

The Grand Dream was for URU The Big Picture ((If all unforseeable things were known and technology was
as it is now, back when Myst first came out etc..)) Was to start the whole game out in URU which you would
uncover later on the myst linking book as well as other left and forgotten books,
( M5-though NOT as a stand alone game but as one of a few expantion packs later to be added to URU a
little at a time as more books are found or discovered etc.) Riven
( which is point and click I know, ie; technology was as it is now back then) would have been
on our track from the serface in the cleft down to the D'ni city. I can see many many side quests and journeys
Actualy making in full 3D, the FULL desent and the D'ni cave incling ALL of the islands with Au'gura at the center.

Once again, that won't happen.

Exile and Revelation are not Cyan's to do with as they will.

I thought that "one person" was Mark DeForest, who is very much alive and busy working on MQO. (We know him by another name....)

Sadly, there is not much to report. I am *still* waiting for a particular ex-Cyan person to send me code changes that only he can make. I know that sounds odd but unfortunately it is the truth and until I have those changes the open source can't proceed.

Maybe the code will , or maybe it wont, be released, but there is really neat news, when you check the threads about Victor Laxman, and Vidkids thread on Is it More Yet?
