I don't know about a "Story", but how about:
When initially translating the Neighbourhood system, the DRC assumed that "Bevin" was the D'ni name for a neighbourhood, and liking the shortness and uniqueness of the name, left it as the default. Further research, and prodding from Vid, lead them to the discovery that "Bevin" was a specific name, so the Neighbourhood system was amended to have the correct naming for newly created neighbourhoods.

How about what every other online game does when they fix a bug-- "it was always that way." The only time when rewriting history is acceptable.

But trap books aren't bugs in online games... Those were artistic license, an entirely different issue.

Good god, people. It was a /bug/. Bug fixes should never have an IC explanation. Nor should they even *need* one.

Great so see that things have been fixed!

I'm also very happy with the changes to D'ni-Tiwah, D'ni-Kirel and also D'ni-K'veer. That's something I and others have sent tickets about, but it was never important enough to be fixed. But thanks to open-source, the community can finally fix those things and improve Uru's quality. A new kind of restoration!

However, there are still some inconsistencies regarding the D'ni locations. For example, Kirel is called "D'ni-Kirel" in the Age list of the big KI, but "Kirel" in the top right corner. For K'veer, it's exactly the other way around! It's called "D'ni-K'veer" in the top right corner, but just "K'veer" in the Age list. It would be very cool if that could be fixed as well. (The same for D'ni-Ashem'en actually.)

There's one more D'ni location to be fixed by the way, the Watcher's Pub. That location should actually be D'ni-Ae'gura. Or perhaps a better suggestion would be D'ni-J'taeri, because that's the district (in Ae'gura) where the pub is and then it cannot be confused with other locations.

Any way, the fact that Bevins are officially Hoods now is quite a victory!

Wouldn't it be easier to say that the trap books were just another name for prison books? Remember: Atrus didn't have to deal with the (D'ni) Guild of Writers, so he was free to call them whatever he liked.
