Open Source will, I'm sure, create the opportunity to run a server from home. It might be questionable how viable most domestic setups will be as far as supporting multiple players, but we'll need to wait and see on that.
Since Open Source will mean that multiple shards will be possible, the present hard coding of IP addresses will need to be replaced by something closer to Until Uru's way of working, so the proposal sounds more "probable" than "possible". Over on OpenUru.org there is discussion of a Hypergrid(http://forums.openuru.org/viewforum.php?f=47): This is really for non-Plasma sims, but the prospect of a similar network for Plasma shards is something to consider.
