These figures are at best a semi-educated GUESSTIMATION. Do NOT TAKE THEM AS FACTS OR NEWS.

For the past two weeks now, Myst has happily hovered between 9 and 11 in the US iPhone App Store. Based on some research online, it seems that it takes over 4,000 sales per day to maintain a position of around #10. Now... removing Apple's 1/3rd cut of the earnings, at $7 per sale they're receiving around $4.30 per sale.

Averaged across a fourteen day period, Myst has earned approximately $240,000.

If I'm remembering correctly, the budget for the original Myst was around $400,000 (not accounting for 15 years of inflation) and that included all of the design and art development. In this case, it was a port of pre-existing assets, and even accounting for inflation and the costs associated with making the game work in it's new environment, it probably doesn't approach the original budget.

So keeping these figures in mind... I suspect that the first check that Cyan will receive from Apple will do a fine job of paying off Sunsoft for the money they were willing to spend on development, and if the sales keep up, will hopefully pay Cyan's staff pretty well and also leave some money left to start going towards development of future projects.

We're pulling for you guys, let's hope these figures add up and things work out for everyone involved. And if they don't... thank you for leaving us this amazing gift. The ability to revisit the worlds that make up our dreams anytime we wish.

I'm just glad iPhone Myst is a success. I wonder if Cyan Worlds will tell us how much was sold.

And is it just me, or does it seems the only things Cyan Worlds are doing from now on are iPhone Myst updates? :P I hope to see new projects coming soon. I think a big reason iPhone Myst sold well was nostalgia. It will be harder to get success with new games, but still, I think I can trust Cyan Worlds to do the right thing. They usually know what people want.

And of course, like everyone, I'm still waiting for the source for Uru. Still checking the "developers" page for anything. Again I will take the rule of the whiny "update!" guy by shouting "update!"

What do you mean "The only thing"? It's only been out for two weeks, it's still got a handful of bugs to fix, and, oh yeah, they need it to make money before they can work on anything else.

But let us leave these things to Cyan. We can try to look into their wallet, but I think we can spend our time in a better way. :wink:

Only major thing I see that they need to do still on Myst is landscape view the journals; or that could just be a personal preference thing......whatever. :lol:
