Shorah!

I've got a bit messed up with KI Time.

I live in the Canary Islands. Can anybody tell me what time is 13:00 KI Time in New York, for example, so I can work out the time here?

Thanks! :D

KI time is Mountain Time, so in New York that should be 3:00 pm.

By the way. I'm so sad  I can't play Obduction on my labtop and I don't have a PC.

I bought the game from Steam and I had to return it.

I was so looking forward to it... and now I can't play.

Well, for a start I can't control the mouse. I set it at the minimun sensibility but if I move it a bit it the cursor crosses the whole screen.

Then the keyboard doesn't work. The arrow keys don't work and the ASDW keys work randomly.

The labtop has an 8 GB RAM. But not an SSD. Maybe that's the problem. I never had any trouble playing URU.

I'm saving money to install an SSD. But I don't know if this will solve the problem.

i'd suggest a real mouse for a laptop and no reason it doesnt work. i had to lower all the settings sliders to make it work quite smooth

I don't use the keyboard or the laptop mouse.

I've got a real mouse and a separate keypad.

You need to give us more of your computer spec before we can tell if an SSD will help. I'm writing an upgrade guide for Second Life people that hope to play in Sansar (SL 2) in January. Many SL'ers are making upgrades and are totally disappointed that their upgrade made so little difference. One has to find the bottleneck and do whatever to remove it.

I'm using Obduction to test some of the upgrades and see how they actually affect game performance. And the SL viewer too. Obduction is new tech and the SL Viewer is old. While it is easy to measure FPS in SL, I couldn't effectively measure it Obduction on the Core2. The measuring software had too big an impact. I could see performance was way degraded by the benchmark software (FRAPS).

8GB is the minimum recommendation. On my Quad Core2 w/8GB, GTX 560 Obduction is bearly playable. I racked up about 9 hours of play. I have my new i5-6600k, w/32GB, and a GTX 1060. The difference is... (no adequate words). Wow! I thought Obduction looked good on my 560...

I found it helped if I shut everything down that I could. My machine uses about 2.5 (at fresh start) to 3.5GB of ram (after some use). The 5 or 6GB of free ram left just isn't enough for Obduction. Doing troubleshooting starts (semi-safe-mode) with most non-essential services and background programs off made a significant difference in performance with Obduction.

Turning down visual quality and shrinking screen size helped too.

I am guessing from the resource use on the Core2 machine that the CPU and RAM are the biggest bottle necks for Obduction.

I suspect the biggest hit on the drive comes when the region loads and when you enter a new area. That isn't that often. If you use SystemExplorer (free monitor) or Windows Resource Monitor, you'll see memory faulting (swapping memory to disk to make virtual memory) is high when the game is sluggish. More memory would eliminate most of the faults. Of course running anything with Obduction makes things worse.

I don't have much hope an SSD will help. Besides you either have to put in a PCIe M.2 SSD or it uses the 3 (older) or 6Gb (newer) SATA IO channels and while faster than a spinning disk bottlenecks at the SATA IO max.

My M.2 I just measured at 344MB/s. My new WD 7,200RPM Black I measured at 150MB/s. I have a slow SSD... there are faster ones. The real performance enhancement is from using a RAMDISK. But, then you are back to adding memory. I upgraded from my Core2 because that motherboard max's at 8GB.

I'm afraid this thread is now well off track! Assuming we may need this thread for other announcements about gatherings, maybe you could continue this discussion in the Hood itself? And/or start a new thread - though I should point out that the Cyan forums have plenty of threads on how to get Obduction working: here are some http://forums.cyan.com/viewforum.php?f=131

Obductee's Hood Gathering a few weeks out from now :)
In 2 to 4 weeks from now we will have an informal gathering to chat about
Obduction gameplay.
Especially Obduction Easter Eggs !
The big hunt is on :) Maybe Gehn will sing opera again ... just kidding :)
From FB with Ryan Warzecha & others:
TD: "Knowing Cyan's past history :) Did anybody find any Easter Eggs or do you think there are any Easter Eggs in Obduction?"
Ryan Warzecha "My favorite one is still hidden"
Jon Worley: "Still hidden as in nobody has found it? Or can it not be found?"
Ryan Warzecha: "I just don't think anyone found it"
TrapperDave Urupics: "ROTFL the BIG HUNT IS ON > more to be discovered !"
Sussaro Carradine: "Myst Book, sure I saw that lying around"
TrapperDave Urupics: "Did you open the Myst book & look inside?"
Ryan Warzecha: "I love this"

So just saying be alert for Easter Eggs in Obduction :) Time will be announced later.

!! SPOILER ALERT !!
I am posting high resolution pics of Obduction on my website for wallpaper or whatever
you wish to use them for.
Nothing is held back > so do not look if you do not want to see spoilers!
