I've just made available a "CavernCam" system that anyone can set up - without buying any special hardware. To see it, visit this link:

Robert's CavernCam

If you want to set one up yourself, please do! The instructions are on the website. I'm hoping that we get enough people with these set up so that, when the next episode rolls out, no one will miss out on the action. I am also maintaining a list of people that have set this up, so that you can visit the various sites and see who is online.

AWESOME, IMPRESSIVE, NEAT, JOB WELL DONE!

question, will they be still shots or rolling footage? right now it seems that i viewed a still shot. i assume you are out of cavern and i am viewing the last still shot, right? the idea is priceless and i think it's absolutely great!

Apparently, my computer does not like CavernCams, as it shuts down internet everytime I click the link :(

Very nice set up. However, I reckon it is far too complicated for the average PC user. What most folks prefer, I think, is a program ready-assembled to download and use more or less straightaway. Maybe one of our forum members could come up with something like that. It would need to have Cyan's permission of course, because you would be using their content. :D

It would be great to bundle together the applet, FRAPS and the uploader into one installer package. However, FRAPS and the applet are 3rd party software, which I cannot redistribute. So unfortunately it is more complicated than it needs to be.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the documentation or make it easier to set up, please let me know.

Hi there, :P

there's a more comfortable way to get automated screenshots.
Just download this neat little program from that site , install it,
start it, adjust it to your needs and you're done.
It even provides a gallery generator...
(works great in MOUL btw  )

Have fun

Jana :D

Unfortunately, BMP is not supported by the applet - so using the free version of FRAPS is not an option. However, I just added instructions on how to use smartision ScreenCopy, which is an open-source screen capture utility:

New Instructions

[thanks to janabe for the suggestion!]

Well then, someone needs to make a better applet. :P ;)

Perhaps I can come up with something...

If you could find a way to load in a BMP and convert it to a much smaller JPG in memory, that would be great! I don't control the applet, since it is a third party product, but I did write the local application that uploads the images. I could add your converter to it.

By the way, your CavernCamUploader.zip file is corrupted... neither Windows compressed files nor 7-zip will open it.

Instead of going through the trouble of converting bmp files you could use the program from janaba1's link instead of the free Fraps.

Maybe Fraps should not be mentioned at all in the instructions, since it is only the commercial version that can be used.

I have the commercial version of Fraps, so I'm glad to see the instructions for using it. And I'm sure there are others who have it. I'm considering doing this for the D'ni expletive Party. I think it would be so cool, since I sometimes have more people on shoutcast than in the hood. I could even post my D'ni Party avvie on the balcony and run the web cam from my other computer; so many possibilities. 8)

Herohtar: I've uploaded a new zip file. I think I inadvertantly uploaded it with ASCII mode instead of BIN mode. If you are downloading it and still getting a problem, try clearing your browser's file cache.
