Yeah - the way the CavernCamUploader works is that , when using an external screen capture utility, it uploads the second-most-recent image in the folder. That way, it doesn't upload a halfway-finished image that the scren capture utility may still be producing.

Herohtahr: that's a good suggestion for an away image. When you hit the stop uploading image, it could send that image up. That would have been helpful to Donahoo to avoid the situation she was in.

robert: I was wondering since I really don't know java. Is there a way that you could add a way to save the images in another folder for say a gallery of images.

Basicly when a new image is upload instead of deleting the old image it would add it to a image gallery with a 10 image limit. So once it got to the 10 image limit the oldest image would be deleted.

I got this from a webcam program sample webpages.

Code:

<html>

   <head>

      <title>Webcam</title>

      <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache">
      <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="30">

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--

   function ImgError()
   {
      window.setTimeout("RefreshImage()", "3000" );
   }

   function StartTimer()
   {
      window.setTimeout("RefreshImage()", "5000" );
   }

   function RefreshImage()
   {
      var now = new Date();
      document.camimage.src = "?" + now.getTime();
   }

   function SaveName()
   {
      expireDate = new Date;
      expireDate.setMonth( expireDate.getMonth() + 6 );
      document.cookie = "chatname="+ document.chatform.chatname.value + ";expires=" + expireDate.toGMTString()
   }

   function SetImage( imglink )
   {
      var now = new Date();
      document.galleryimg.src = imglink + "?" + now.getTime();
      RefreshImage();
   }

If you save it as a html file you will see what it looks like and thats kinda my idea of the Caverncam and image gallery together or it could be a separate page for the image gallery.
It could show what happened earlier for the people that come late to the caverncam.

Was just curious ;)

goofy: The image gallery is a great idea! I'll have to think about how to implement it, though. In the meantime...

Announcing version 2.1 of the CavernCam Uploader. Features:
  • You can specify the size of the image to upload
  • The date of the image (in GMT) can be displayed
  • Specify an "away" image to upload
  • For those up you with problems uploading multiple images per FTP session, there's now an option to restart your FTP session between uploads

Click here for the software and instructions. Hopefully this release will eliminate the problems that some of you have had before.

Which version of the Java plug-in does your copy of Safari have, Jishin? The applet needs v1.5.0 or greater.

Update:

I fixed a bug in the CavernCamApplet where one of the threads would stop working right at startup. To put the updated applet on your web site:
  • Go here and click on the link for CavernCamUploader.zip
  • Unzip it over your current installation on your computer; it should preserve your current settings in your caverncamuploader.properties file
  • Run CavernCamUploader.bat
  • From the Tools menu, choose "Web Page Creator"
  • In the Web Page Creator dialog, make sure the fields are correct, then click "Create and Upload"

If all works well, your CavernCam web site will show the applet's new version number in the status bar of your browser, e.g. "CavernCamApplet v2.1.1". Let me know if you need help with the update.

Before Episode 8 begins tomorrow, I'd like to invite interested members of the MO:UL community to install a CavernCam and add their site to the list:

http://www.bergen-hill.com/rtr/CavernCam/ccc.html

This site contains links to each camera and a date of the last image transmitted. For those of you unable to attend portions of Episode 8, you can visit this site to see who is currently transmitting and witness the episode through their eyes.

If you are successful in setting up a CavernCam, reply below with your URL and I will add your name to the list. Good luck!

Whenever I try to open CavernCamUploader.bat, it just flickers and closes. :shock:

Xavius:

There's probably an error that it prints out, but the window closes before you can see it. So, to determine what the error is saying:

- From the Start menu, choose Run...

- In the Run dialog, type "cmd" without the quotes and click on OK. This will bring up a command shell

- Change your directory to the location of your CavernCamUploader.bat. For example, if you put it in C:\Temp, then type
Code:
cd C:\Temp

- Type
Code:
CavernCamUploader.bat
and hit enter.

Then copy the error message it shows and paste it in a post here.
