Will do, Lynnutte.

Tweek, could we persuade you to be our icon creator for the affiliate groups? They'd need to be standard sized (65px x 65px or thereabouts) white GIFs with transparent background. :D

Some comments on the design:

I'm not sure what the border around the site is for. It doesn't really serve a purpose... could you try getting rid of it, and make the page 100% wide?

Try changing the font from Times New Roman to something more special. I like Georgia, for example.

You have a "center" id. The purpose of style sheets are to separate content from style, so putting "center" in the content is not a good idea.

h1, h2, ... are block elements, so there's no need to give them width: 100% and display: block.

Other than that, good work, keep it up!

I very much agree about the center element and border. I would expect the site to look something more like this.

All but one of the changes are made in the linked stylesheet. (I removed the image on top of the background of the same image.)

ddfreyne, thanks for the CSS cleanup tips. ;)

Regarding the centered v. liquid layout, I agree in principle - but everyone here seemed to like Tweek's design, so I just did my best to emulate it in CSS. I have mentioned that if other people would like to create alternate stylesheets, I'd love to include them and let people choose their own, like the CSS Zen Garden.

Well, I mentioned the 100% layout because it was my impression that the design implied that, and that ought to be the default. I doubt that many users are going to run around making their own stylesheets. I was just suggesting that that was the way the design was supposed to look. (and hence, that's what people were liking)

Ah, gotcha. Could be. If Tweek has a wider header image (or if someone would like to Photoshop me one), I'll incorporate it.

The reason I suggested people making their own stylesheets is because I figured it would be tough to please everyone. I thought if people cared enough, they could just create one they liked. :)

Ok, all you forum pros!

Please tell me what categories and forums we should have in the Pre-GoM forum. I am the least frequenter of forums, so I need help!

Also, if anyone wants to be a mod or admin, gohead (as we say here in the South).

This brings us back to the second part of my original post, where I pointed out that the 100% wide look can be at least very well fudged with only a small change to the stylesheet, and no additional images. However, Tweek probably could provide the original yellow background strip for unlimited wideness.

I personally don't like to use repeating backgrounds, as I keep my monitor on the highest possible resolution. That's just a personal preference, though.

Nadnerb, since you've obviously got lots of CSS experience, maybe you could take a look at the forum template. If you could fix it up, that would be immensely helpful! Just let me know if you're willing and I'll make you an admin.

The contribute section is now live. There are two ways to contribute news: as a regular explorer (posts to the homepage) or as a registered affiliate (posts to homepage and will also post to affiliate-specific feed, once I have that section set up). Please let me know if you need a login.

It would be nice if the GoMe website, with or without frame, looked correct with a width of 1024. The MystOnline website, for example, is sized to fit exactly within that size. GoMe with the frame is very obviously too wide... so I see border at top and left, and no border at right, if I set my browser at that width.
