Hello, all my fellow Myst fans, from Ages of Ilathid!
Want to help out in making another Myst game? Well, over at Ilathid we currently need help from all Myst fans who have time to give--no special skills required except a healthy work ethic! :) Basically, the situation is this: We need people to go through our forums, gather and organize all relevent data/pictures/design decisions/ideas/etc, and then post all of that into an organized wiki. Sound easy enough? The thing is, there are currently 11,340 posts in 1086 topics, and that's a lot of work to do! Well, many hands make light work, and before Ages of Ilathid can continue we need to knock this obstacle out of the way. Right now it's difficult to proceed because the project is disorganized; and because a lot of data was lost some time ago, it's hard to tell what stuff survived the data loss, what stuff needs to be done or redone, or even where to look to find out if something is lost, survives, or needs to be redone. It's a big mess! And that's where the wiki comes in.
Never updated a wiki before? Well no worries, it's not very hard to learn, if you're willing to put in the effort. We also need people who simply scan through the threads, pick out and summarize the relevent facts and data, and post their findings so that someone else can put those findings into the wiki in an organized manner.
Here's the official request from the Ages of Ilathid team leader, Paulo Monteiro:

Quote:
Look guys, what we need at this precise moment is not testers, not even modellers or animators. We need dedicated Myst fans. Our problem is simple: we have a huge volume of data which has been blown to smithereens years ago. It is here, thanks to the commendable efforts of our staff, but it is completely out of place.

So this project is now open to ALL MYST FANS who desire to help putting this data back in place. It's just a wiki, a simple wiki, that has to be organized again. But there is a lot of data.

(See http://www.ilathid.com/boards/index.php/topic,1641.msg2812566.html#msg2812566)

For those of you who have never heard of Ages of Ilathid before, I'll mention a few details about it.
Ilathid is a fan-made game in the style of Riven and original Myst. When released, it will be free of cost. Our ultimate goal is that all Myst fans will be able to play it--whether they run Mac, PC, or Linux, or speak Spanish, Dutch, French, etc (of course, Linux and specific-language support is dependent on whether anybody from those sectors helps us to implement it--i.e., if we can't speak Chinese, we obviously can't make a Chinese language version, but if a Chinese speaker volunteers to help us then we're willing to make that language version, same with Linux). Miscellaneous: We have a legal agreement with Cyan which permits us to make the game. We have our own game engine, based on Python. Ilathid has been around since 2004, at least. We are recruiting talented artists, writers, modelers, musicians, coders, translators, etc. to help out with other aspects of the project. And nope, we don't know the completion date (I knew you were going to ask that)! :P

For the shameless purpose of tempting you to help us, here's a link to our website, where you can find a gorgeous gallery, marvelous movies with astounding animations (I recommend Trailer 2), and a link to the less-than-perfect public forums (the private forums are what we really need help organizing, and you won't be able to see them until you're upgraded): http://ilathid.com/

And best of all, the demo! If this doesn't lure you in, I don't know what will. :P Sadly, it's for PC only at the moment (the Mac version of Ilathid has only run on one developer's computer so far). http://www.ilathid.com/setup.exe
Be sure to click on the menu at the end and listen to the music that goes with it. It's one of my favorite Myst pieces, second only to Kadish gallery!

Hi Jennifer,

Just letting you know I made a post over at the GoMa forums with a call for help on this. :) Hopefully we'll get some responses!

Thanks Jen for bringing this up to people's attention.

I read not long ago that they want to try and get completed late this year, or early next, any details on that?

That's a complicated question really; the answer depends on a lot of different factors.
1. How many people we recruit in the upcoming months.
2. What happens with the class of Brazilian university students who were going to work on Ilathid as part of their curriculum (last I heard).
3. How deluxe the game ends up, since more features = more developing time.
Who knows, really? But I know that Paulo does want to finish it by 2008...

Huh, that's peculiar. So you got an e-mail from Ilathid asking for your help with this project, and you sent back a reply, and haven't received a response? How long have you been waiting since you sent the reply? Well, I'll ask about this over there and see what the hold up is. :)

I've found any emails usually end up in my bulk/spam folder. I changed the settings and it still has wound up there. :?

Yes, Ravin, i have seen your Email and loved it. Unfortunately, I AM holding back on day-to-day Ilathid work while the server is not ready. So, if you want to help us organizing things it'll be great :)

Hey guys, I just wanted to pop into this thread to leave a note that the other thread about Ages of Ilathid and Ahra Pahts (that had been started a little while ago) has fallen victim to those forum hickups we've been having. It was certainly NOT deleted, but it's gone. We are really sorry for the inconvenience, once again.

Anyway, here's a link to a sign up sheet for anyone who is interested. :)

I'm interested, but... Does it run on Linux with Wine? I've seen the preview videos, and they're magnificent.

Katreeny (I do have windows, I just don't go there very often)

We'd like it to. Unfortunately, we haven't managed to find any programmers that can do the porting.

Pity. My lack of linux geekiness takes me out of the mix there. I guess I'll just have to boot into XP more often ;)

Well, since this is the thread for Ahra Pahts I just gotta ask... Is anyone else completely perplexed at the security on Shell 111? My son and I have been trying to get in there for several days. He sat down for hours today getting "BEGONED" from one place to another just to run back and try it all again. I may have to go to the Guild of Writers forum and ask Robert the Rebuilder for a clue. :P I tried every logical thing I could think of and then every illogical thing. Now I'm starting to think there's a bug and we can't get in at all anyway.
