I always check back on the forums JUST before something big happens. I guess I'm psychic or something...

well, same with me. I haven't checked the forums in a few months, and the day I decide to check them is the day chogon makes a comeback. Strange how the world turns like that.

What I don't get is why, if an announcement would be out "soon (days)", why not just wait until the announcement was out to say anything? It's not like anything was going to happen in the next few days that needed to be prevented, was it?

May be they are testing the water... How much response will there be? How many will come in from wherever and read the thread?

Why not just - "we have read your requests for feedback and here it is."?

If that is the "big news" then for me its not for the best. I mean its probably good for Cyan , in some form, but as for me "open-source", while great for somethings, has often meant pretty low standards along with "fan created" as well. I don't see myself supporting it/ participating only for content made by fans. If that is the case, I am finally and completely out.

You don't have to look at them to know they aren't made by Cyan...

Signed, someone who likes both Cyan, and fan ages.

I've only seen glimpses of Fan Ages. Ahra Pahts (spelling?) looks interesting, as well as Eh'ko.

I've also seen what people in SL - even those not connected with Uru - can do. The talent is out there. (Granted, some of it really is "out there", but still...)

Remember: if you don't like a particular Age, you don't have to go there....

I swear you're the first person to ever spell it properly aside from its creators... :P

IMO The way fan ages will be integrated now that things will be open sourced is like this.

The Nexus will "host" the links to all fan ages. When you link to an age through the nexus for the first time it will download the age from the dataserver. So you will only download fan ages you actually want to visit.

This is the same for updates. No need to use the ULM anymore, other than for the Offline game.

Serene BTW, Near Cyan Quality right there. And with things being open sourced, the plugin will enhance by leaps and bounds I'm sure.

There have been and will be many wonderful fan ages. I think this is one of the best moves Cyan could make/has made. The only better move would be to open fan ages as well as Cyan Ages, but that is kind of pie in the sky for quite a while now. However, this is the time to experiment, to test, to see what works and what doesn't. WE can afford to take the risks a profit-driven company like Cyan cannot. I'm sure there will be poor-quality Ages and other hazards. We will show our community's maturity by how we overcome those challenges. I look forward to helping as much as possible.
