The 3D models and textures that were used to create Myst Online: Uru Live will not be part of the open source license. We will probably release some of these models and textures, but under a different license than the code source.

Que up the dueling banjo music.

No! what are you trying to say?! I'm not... CRAZY!

But really, it was "uru". It was good while it lasted (like, 3 minutes).

Suggests some cyan involvement somewhere if we are keeping the title, do you think?

Maybe reading too much into it?

Cool, I like the new header. I hope this means we get to see some source very soon. :D

Cyan never said they were just walking away for us to do our own thing.

Currently it doesn't work with IE6; hopefully that will be fixed.

If you're still using IE6, hopefully this might prompt you to upgrade to a remotely secure browser ;-)

 I just now noticed this as I was posting on another thread. I don't think I did more than glance at the front page of the forum Saturday or Sunday, so I have no idea when I this happened, but this thread started this morning, so it must have just happened. I can't believe it wouldn't have caught my eye yesterday, but you never know.

Looks very nice. :D I love choice of images. It speaks volumes to me, in terms of discussions that have been going on here lately. It's the Cleft, and the trailer, and (hoping not to be spoilerish) there is a Journey cloth visible. Whether or not the choice of an image from the Cleft "means" anything, as opposed to choosing an image from D'ni or their ages, it's just cool looking. And the logo is just the word "URU" - at least that's what I'm seeing, so I don't know what other people are seeing. I see that every last remnant of the GameTap era has now been removed.

And all the broken buttons are back, with some new information! New to me, anyhow. I have not been in the thick of developments since the open source announcement was made. This looks like pretty much the same thing said several different ways, but the bit about "assets" and the server - I'd like to know more about what that means. It kind of sounds like people will be able to add ages and areas, using their own material, but not change what's already there. I'm not advocating one thing or another, just trying to figure out what they're saying.

 It doesn't take much to make me wide awake, when it comes to Uru. Any change at all!

Sigh. IE6 likes to stab you in the back when you're not looking. I'm looking into it.

Update: As a temporary workaround, the sidebar images are now disabled.

Me too. Actually, that was the thing I noticed first, but I figured it was part of the connection issues we're having this morning. However, it directed my attention to the top of the page, and ...

TS, "URU" is there consistently for me. Are some people still getting cached versions, I wonder?

THANK YOU!!!

Currently, we are readying the sources for open source in our spare time. The "we" also includes a few ex-Cyan programmers, but it is still tedious work that takes time. If one source set goes faster, we may release that before the others. When we release something, it will be to an open source repository web site. The link to that open source repository will be posted here.

and thank you to the "few ex-Cyan programmers!!!!!!!!!"

that is cool very very cool much appreciated.

and the repository site is a wonderful decsion, keeps the resources firmly in a safe place. :) this looks like a lot of good clear thinking about complex issues is going on there, thanks Cyan :)

I use IE6 and will use IE6 until the Heat Death of the Universe, as 7 is a bloated whale that eats memory and adds functions never needed that lag the system. Good firewall and anti v protects the home front well enough. I appreciate fixes in the works, i wondered why the words would disappear behind the pics :)

and i can peek with firefox if needed. dont spend time on the front page really, just nice to see the changes. :)

hooray!!!

Wow!!! I'm really excited!!! That looks all so great! Thanks all for the updates
and all the news and your efforts... Goes on waiting in anticipation and delight... :D

Side note: Everybody using IE should switch over to Firefox and you'll
never have any problems on the internet anymore... besides all of the
possible improvements related to the overall surf experience and your
computer will sigh with relief as well... :P

Wow - just seen the new site - amazing guys! :D

I am eagerly looking forward to the release of the code - needless to say, the next few months look to be very interesting! I'm sure we all have plans, so let's help Cyan get theirs underway to get ours together! My many congrats to Cyan and the team in being able to pull all of this off with such few resources! ;)

Happy New Uru to all! :)

TG
