I wonder why there is still any doubt about the official name. Just take a look at the heading of this forum. Whether you want to use that name shortened (and shuffled) is up to you. :wink:

There is still doubt because of this:

And this is just a forum, not a world-wide release of open source under a declared trademark with licensing.

A moose is a camel?

:D The animal in the quote about being designed by a committee is a camel.

Boy, that's an amusing thing. Someone makes a quote, and from correction comes debate about the naming of our bizarre beast.

Kinda like... I dunno. I'm sure some debate about what to name a thing not yet built happens somewhere, but heck if I know where. :?

:P (And I prefer OSMO if we really have to give an acronym, but I really prefer "Uru". Simple, short, and unless you plan to port Myst 5's Myst Island in (well, as a baseline, before smacking it into something closer to RealMyst) or whatever.. all of those names using 'Myst Online' are not exactly suitable.

That and I think "MOOS" or "MOOSE" sounds like you're trying to stop people from thinking it's a serious thing, and thus mock it and ignore it for the next SL ripoff.

Yeah but that gets confusing with Cosmo Osmo

Cyan calls it OSUL, and out loud sounds like assault, so I don't like that either.

Besides why did you resurrect this thread?

I don't see 5 days as 'resurrecting' myself. A week, yes, but not a few days. Particularly not in the slow parts of the forum.

I'm also serious. Uru is best, OSMO works too if we need an acronym for life or death reasons. MOOSE is just stupid, OSUL is odd (but I could sorta live with it, trouble is it doesn't roll off the tongue).

I don't think Cosmic Osmo is going to be a worry unless Cyan won't let us call it OSMO for legal reasons.. personally I think it's fitting for many reasons. Open Source gives us a fun toybox and sandbox to play about with and explore what we can do in. How is that not a fitting tribute? :D

At risk of continuing the thread bump, I figure "OSUL" sounds something like Azul, which is nifty.

Er, anyway, OSMO here as well (again, looking at the heading of this subforum).

Azul means blue in Spanish... Cyan is also a shade of blue... Maybe the antlers of the MOOSE could be hoods... IDK, I'm making this up... So long without news...I'm dying of thirst. :(

I don't think you're far off the mark there.

At least not with that one. ;)

We can call it something new, but I always refer to it as the newest version of online Uru.

So - Uru Online works for me!

I don't think that regardless what we end up calling it, Myst online will be Myst online. The game will still be the same game we grew to love. I have been here since beta and have loved this game for years. I am just glad it has received another chance at life.

Either its your accent or mine, but when I say it aloud it sounds like assault, and I have a hard time already repeating myself trying to get words across, especially at work :P

So sadly Cyan wasn't at E3, and its getting closer to the middle of winter here in New Zealand, still no sign of anything happening with making the Myst Online Open Source Experience available.

I guess i'd better go back to swatting for my calculus exam in a couple of weeks, nothing like a 6 month break from Age making when nothing is happening other than Myst for the iPhone.
[spoiler]
A couple of the first finds in google

OSMO -> http://library.osu.edu/
AZUL -> http://www.azulsystems.com/

MOOSE -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moose
I like the moose analogy, as it is an animal that wanders around, much like Uru explorers in D'ni

*hums Beatles songs*

My opinions are known.. Uru, or OSMO.

And to tie it vaguely back to the original topic fan made open source things don't go to E3, they aren't commerical games and thus have nothing to gain by the costs of getting a booth. Besides, booth babe in bikini, booth babe in bodysuit, booth babe dressed skimpy, explorer dressed sensibly for all kinds of weather with a traffic cone beside, booth babe.. :lol:
