Wow, I've never seen that http://marein.org/dni/oldstuff/Degas.rar footage - can you say where you got it? It explains some references you can find inside the original realMyst demo .exe file (which would have been Plasma 1.0? Anyone?):

I really don't remember... It might have been the old UruObsession site, but that's just a guess.

That degas video predates anything that Ive ever seen of early Uru by probably five years. In fact that may be the earliest bit of realtime 3-D game footage Ive ever seen. I'd almost guarantee that predates Riven. Absolutely fascinating.

Degas.rar - Footage from a very, very early version of Uru

LOL Actually, that is a video clip of a demo program from Headspin that enticed us (Rand, Tony, Josh and I) to travel down to North Carolina to take a look at them. It was the engine we were looking for to do DIRT with. And we eventually merged Headpsin into Cyan and moved them up to Spokane.
I guess you could call it Plasma 1.0 but it was pre-realMyst Plasma engine - maybe 0.9. That demo program must be laying around somewhere but I don't suspect that it would run anymore. It only ran on Voodoo graphics cards, that I'm sure no one has laying around anymore.

There are actually a few Glide wrappers out there these days... if you can dig it up I'm sure there's more than one person that would put some effort into trying to get it working

That looked so fail until the globe. Then it was nostalgia (since it seemed so much like 90's comp gammes for kids) and win.

It's a compressed rar archive, so yes (I suggest WinRar). After extracting the video file from it, you will need the QuickTime player to play it (or another program that can play .mov files).

Chogon: Thanks for the info! And yes, as others have indicated, it would be nice to take a stab at the actual demo... :)

There's also a program I found called Zipeg. And, no I have no idea why their icon is a sheep.

Paradox just let me know:

That Degas video was actually posted to CC back in the summer of 2007 by Brice.

Chatlog - http://www.guildofwriters.com/Brice.html

(CC and Brice URLs added by me)

Now we know!

I found the Nexus demo and I talked to Brice (aka Nikto) and I put it on cho. And I found a Glide wrapper that works with it.

You can find it here: http://cho.cyan.com/Headspin/Newnexus.zip
And the nGlide wrapper I used here: http://cho.cyan.com/Headspin/nGlide095_setup.exe
(You can also visit the nGlide home page at: http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide)

The demo is a little buggy in places (objects slipping thru the floor or cameras not always switching correctly). But you can hit the "r" key to reset the game and start over. There are a fair number of puzzles to solve. But there is no mouse support, so to "activate" things you hit the "a" key. And you can deal with the "inventory" with the "i" key. And the "l" key to "light" the flashlight. Spacebar to jump. There might be more commands but I can't remember them at the moment.

Have fun!

Great !

one small problem though - the game start an i can walk around just fine but pressing "a" crashes the game... any idea of what might be causing that ? this is pretty must a game stopper, I want to push that hidden button !!

edit: log says nothing of significance about the crash.

Edit 2: problem solved my keyboard switched to QWERTY for some reason, so new shortcut: "q" quits the game

(and p pauses and after pressing i for the inventory you can select an item an press "d") to drop it

It ran fine for me on a WindowsXP machine - Sorry, I have no idea what could be wrong - which could be the demo or the Glide wrapper or ... Maybe someone will be able to figure out how to make it work on different PC configurations.

Ah, yes. I think that it gets the key strokes at a lower level than your mapping. And might mess up on other language keyboards also - it is an old program!

Would anyone who gets this all installed and working like to post a YouTube demo?
