Thanks everybody for your input, and especially those who helped me attempt changing to the abductee hood.
Just so you all know, this behaviour has been going on since the big crash when we all had to get new Ki numbers etc.
Re: trying to join another hood, no that doesn't work either. (So we know it's not related to some specific abductee hood issue with my Avi.)
And I can confirm that it is specific to my one prime avi. A new avi created on the same account behaves normally
There has been one slight change to the symptoms.
I now CAN now delete my hood book normally and it stays deleted. (This did not happen before, it would automatically spring back out, and needed to be deleted again, and the minute I left Relto and returned the book would be back) This change to the deletion behaviour started to occur after a few days ago when I had done a bit of multiple deleting of the book and logging out and returning .) However other symptoms persist:
Though the hood book now stays deleted, when I get to Nexus, there is no flashing yellow book icon, in fact there is absolutely nothing. Before, this option would appear sporadically.
And of course, I am still unable to join another hood.
I have been trying to make contact with other members of this hood, the DRC86, and see if any of them have had the same problem. But no contact yet.
I will continue to fiddle with this, because it is becoming an obsession now!

G'day trapper Dave, my apologies for "disappearing" during our last attempt.
I had another server error crash during the link to your Rialto, and then couldn't get back in at ALL-which I must say is unusual. (Over the last few weeks so I have been getting lots of server error 5s, but I can usually get straight back in.)
Reminds me of the good old days, when URU was first online, waiting upwards of 45 minutes to login, (AAARGH!) only to crash almost immediately once you got in.

But I still can't join my prime Avi
