The location of the Cleft was purposely set in the Middle East in the novels, instead of its actual location in New Mexico.

David Wingrove was told that the Cleft/Lodge/Entrance to D'ni was in a desert but not which desert and apparently set it in the middle east. Cyan has said they always meant for those locations to be in New Mexico and that the misinformation was to keep the location of D'ni secret (in terms of IC reasons).

So here we are back to the beginning "How much can we trust the sources?"
Tweek has just made the point of misinformation or/and disinformation.

So this will make me question other facts and details as we know.

There are a lot of documents mentioned as source material in the footnotes of the DRC booklets written about the D'ni kings. Obviously, since the DRC aren't really about any more, it's a long shot to think they might release some of those documents for explorers... But maybe someday that will change?
