In short, it tells how well donations are covering the expenses; above 3 is good.

Keep in mind however that it hasn’t been updated in months, so we don’t really know what’s the current status.

It runs about the same formula as the Lake Project, except with pennies instead of pellets.

Thanks everyone for the explanations. I have donated and plan to donate regularly. I do hope Cyan plans on giving us an update on the current cavcon level soon. If it's low I will donate more when I have a few extra $$ to spare on top of my regular donations.

And I couldn't agree more that more-frequent CAVCON updates would encourage donations, the more realtime the better.

Imagine if you could make a donation and then see a CAVCON meter jump up by some amount as a near-immediate result - wouldn't that be a great incentive!

That would be lovely. I can already see myself trying to push it over to the next digit!

Or if nothing else, a recent figure would be interesting.

I was reading somewhere there was a charge to play Myst Online when Game Tap had it in their line up. Anyone know how much they charged?

Also who can we contact to ask for a Cavcon meter update. It gets discouraging to see no movement despite people donating.

IIRC, it was about $10 a month depending on how much you paid at a time, but that included all their other games, too.

@lspace... I've just now had a peek... the latest message I've got reg CavCon
from Vicki [aka Tor'i] at Cyan was in July, when we were planning Cyan's 30
Years Anniversary: "Updates: No word yet on when CAVCON will be updated. I am
working with the powers that be to see what we can do to get it updated"...

Maybe time to go knocking on that door again..? However! It's been RAWA doing
the math on CavCon. And he has had some very serious health issues to fight with
as his first priority! So the CavCon has kinda been in the no-mans-land for some
time now.

Edit: a PM's been sent to Cyan HQ reg the CavCon status.

Vicki replied actually the very same day. But while awaiting a more official
or specific comment, here's what she could say about it for now...

So... no hard facts or numbers provided, but concluding from that: IF Tony
[Tony Fryman, the Head Manager etc. at Cyan HQ] is happy with the present
situation, then we should not worry too much.

And I'm sure we all will get an alert IF things starts to go poorly...

That's good to hear. But it still would be nice to have the meter up to date. I wonder what the monthly server costs are. Anyone have an idea, or a guesstimate?
