As it turns out for some reason MOULa gets slightly cranky if you have 9 output audio devices and 8 input audio devices. Certainly a perfectly normal and not unusual in any way configuration.

Fortunately, there is a workaround! If you go into the sound control panel you can turn off devices you don't need at the moment and MOULa will no longer go insane. Just right click on some of the ones you don't need for MOULa and hit disable.

For those curious how I managed to get so many devices:
  • HTC Vive: 2 output, 1 input
  • Home theater system: 1 output
  • Unused outputs on graphics card: 2 output (don't know if these count for the limit that makes MOULa cranky)
  • Sound Blaster ZxR: 2 output, 4 input
  • Bigscreen: 1 output, 2 input
  • Steam In-Home Streaming: 1 input, 1 output

Hmm, I have never had that many sound "cards", fascinating. Updates to MOUla seem slower then ever, so I don't think this will be fixed anytime soon.
