Out of curiosity more than anything, I wanted to see if I could connect to Uru Live using my PocketPC's 3G connection.

Been on an “unlimited data plan” (3Gb monthly data cap), it seemed an idea for when I’m out and about, such as been at the office (whom have a seriously restrictive firewall), or in a location with no internet connection.

After getting everything sorted and my PPC connected to my laptop, Uru connects quickly and even the initial download is tolerable with it only taking around 2 minutes.

30 minutes play only cost me 12 -15 Mb of my monthly limits, I was pretty impressed with the performance, and any lag was bearable as well, even in a place where there was other people.

However I wouldn’t advise downloading new ages on the connection for fear of running up limits, but if you’ve already downloaded the age updates, I would defiantly recommend it if your travelling but want Uru by your side.

Hmm. I have to say, I am impressed. I would never have expected URU Live to work on anything more mobile than a laptop, and not a low-mid spec one either.

Nice one, DarK! And yup, you're adicted...

:P

I got the impression he was just using the 3G as a network gateway; not actually playing URU on it?!

Right, he was only using the PPC's wireless internet connection, URU was running on a laptop.

Well you know, come on Smartphones having the power to run Uru, don't be silly :P

However if this evolves a little more, you could at least carry Uru around in a backpak without much hassle

Strictly speaking, that one might work, since it has a GMA 900.

I read this the same way as Islander, ie that you were playing URU Live on your phone. (I've just reread the post and seen PPC connected to laptop. Oh.).

I like how the "unlimited data plan" has a monthly 3 GB cap.

(I think they should change the name of the plan!)

On a semi-related note -- Was it Bill Gates who said a number of years ago: "No one will ever need more than 640 kb of RAM." (Or something to that effect...)
