EDIT: Link updated to new website : 3rd May 2017

I know that many people do not want a complete walkthru of the whole age, but are puzzled by the book and what it means.
Most people seem to find the first cave "by accident" ... this explains HOW to use the book to find the first cave...

I have made a very simple Flash movie to show you how it works... not telling you everything you need to know ... so you can still have some fun 'solving' the age.

Like I said, you'll still have a lot of work to do... but if you're really stumped by the book ... here's it's main secrets

Please DO NOT LOOK unless you are really, really stuck.

What a great way of explaining the puzzle. Simple, and to the point. I'm certain it will help out lots of "stumped" explorers.
Thanks boblishman. :D

Yes this is a great hint without giving everything away. Just kinda teaches the basics for using compass points to find something.
Now just make a video teaching everyone how to add vectors!

I'll second that Hardigan. I feel pretty fortunate to call myself a

Excellent!
One suggestion for improvement would be to add a bit at the beginning to explain how to calculate the distance using the special flags listed in the book.
Agreed! That was great! Maybe I'll wait next time to start an age and see what brilliance pops up to nudge me along. LOL :)

Thank you all for the kind comments...

I deliberately didn't include any ""other information" regarding the puzzle (A'lan) ... that way people can still get a great deal of satifaction from "working out" the rest of the puzzle ... this was meant to be more of a "push in the right direction" rather than a complete spoiler.

I remember how the book really confused me at the start... had I realised how the book worked (I hope) I would have been able to solve the rest of it without any other "spoilers" ...

Don't get me wrong, I think The Noble Robot's solution is excellent... but it was just TOO complete for me ... I had to read all of it to understand what I was doing... and so that left me with almost nothing to do "on my own". (I'm not complaining... I knew I took that risk when I clicked his excellently clear titled thread).

Sometimes I wish that this section of the forum was not "Spoilers, Hints and Tips all together ... I'd much prefer there to be a seperate HINTS & TIPS only section of the forum that I can brouse when I'm looking for help rather than a complete solution. Sometimes, in this section the titles alone are complete spoilers (not, I hasten to add, in the case of The Noble Robot's), and a separate HINTS & TIPS section could avoid this.

Anyway, I hope my small contribution helps a few people to "move foward" with the puzzle, rather than solve it.
