On Monday, August 20th, at 2pm cavern time and again at 7pm cavern time I will be hosting an All-Guilds Town Hall Meeting, in Kirel.

After several very productive conversations with Guild Advisor, Reteltee, he and I agree that finding common goals and working together to pave a common foundation for the five new guilds and all future guilds should be an important first step.

So far, those explorers who support the Messengers, Writers and Maintainers have been gathering on various forums in sometimes heated and always productive debates and brainstorming sessions in an effort to invent these new guilds. And their efforts have yielded many positive results. However there already exist in the cavern fully-developed Guilds of Cartographers and Greeters, whose experience and wisdom should prove vital to helping the other guilds invent themselves. Here is an opportunity for members of these guilds, and exlorers interested in helping to invent these guilds, to come together and share ideas, successes, and advice.

There is tremendous potential for cooperation between the guilds, and with the proper common structure to build upon, this cooperation can be facilitated and encouraged. Here are some examples:

The Greeters could assist the Writers by introducing new explorers to their Ages, and assist the Messengers by informing the new explorers of their many services and benefits available.

The Writers could assist the Cartographers by providing specs of their new Ages for more accurate maps.

The Cartographers could assist the Greeters by providing helpful maps to common areas which can be offered to new explorers.

The Maintainers could assist the Writers by providing useful feedback on Ages-in-progress, assist the Cartographers by providing accurate measurements of new areas, and assist the Greeters by leading guided tours.

The Messengers could assist all guilds by providing efficient communication between guilds and by keeping records of meeting logs.

No doubt there will be other important ways in which the guilds can assist and support one another as each guild's functions become better defined.

This meeting will also be an excellent opportunity to ask questions of the Guild Advisor, Reteltee, who has the ear of the DRC. In fact, there is perhaps no better opportunity to get straight answers to those questions only the DRC (Cyan) can answer.

Remember, many of the new guilds are just names right now, their goals not yet well-defined. For those of us who are intensely interested in having a voice in the creation of our preferred guild, this meeting will be an opportunity to hear ideas outside the box, from intelligent and experienced people beyond the tight circle of devotees to our particular guild.

Another important idea to explore is the idea suggested by graydragon and which has gained much support -- the idea that some guilds might be umbrellas under which various groups and organizations can gather. Here is an opportunity to hear ideas and begin to define the boundaries of those umbrellas.

The first meeting, at 2pm will last no more than an hour (as I will be on my lunch hour), but is provided specifically for those interested parties in Europe and other similar time zones. Logs will be kept and notes taken, which can be introduced in the second meeting, at 7pm, which will last as long as people are interested in being there.

If there are any Moderators who are willing to offer their services for either of these meetings, please let me know. Your presence would make my job infinitely easier.

I am also eager to hear any suggestions for specific topics, or for any speakers who wish to address the meeting to please let me know so I can fit them into the schedule.

Please note, everybody is welcome, whether you have chosen to support a particular guild or not.

I wouldn't think that the maintainers would "lead" the greeters guided tours, rather act as a form of safety and protection and escort these tours.

Glad to hear the meetings finally moving forward, count me in. I should be able to make the 2PM one, but I will see if I can arrange it so I can make the evening on too.

Absolutely! As I said, we want to build a foundation that will support all guilds, present and future.

1) It is assumed all areas available to the explorers will be Maintainer-approved, and therefore not have any need for safety escorts.

2) Why not throw the Maintainers a bone and let them have an IC function in the cavern where they can role-play their guild-ness?

Why can't both the Greeters and the Maintainers co-lead an Age tour? The Greeters could do the general info of the Age and the Maintainers could throw in some neat details.

"We had some real trouble getting 'X' to work right, but in the end we worked it out"

"We had to send this Age back to the GoW 3 times before it was stable enough to visit. I lost both of my eyebrows before the final re-write."

I think stuff like that would make it more "real". :D

First let me say that I think it's great to see folks trying to organize things.

Now for the BUT...
The times choosen for this meeting, effectively eliminate anyone on the east coast that has a job or family. Both meetings are scheduled either during normal business hours or dinner time. I know I can't make either one.

Second, The Guild of Greeters is already an active Guild with a specific goal. Any changes or additions to that goal need to be approved by the Guild, as a whole. No one person makes decisions and no final decision can be delivered until Greeters have an opportunity to discuss and vote.

Now I do realize that this meeting appears to be a "Discussion" on how things should progress and how we can all operate cooperatively. There are likely to be those who hear something and take it as fact so I wanted it to be clear from the start that any Guild, but mine especially;), governs itself but is willing to listen to others requests.

I hope there will be a transcript of these meetings available when they are complete.

I just wanted to say thanks so much for organizing this. As a potential of the Guild of Writers, I'm definitely going to try and make it. Thanks, Montgomery.

And yes, sticking with what I've mentioned in the GoW discussion, a transcript should be made readily available. If I'm there, I'll log and edit, but I can't make a 100% commitment, unfortunately (I'll be driving back from New Hampshire on Monday).

Isn't the second one at 9PM eastern? Not exactly normal dinner time, but if you do eat that late, maybe you could eat and play!

I don't think anyone expects, or even wants, the Guild of Greeters to change. I think all the Guilds could learn a lot from the first "official" Guild of the restoration.

Absolutely! If anyone outside of the Guilds is going to influence them at all, it should be those the Guilds serve: the community. (And of course, Cyan  )

Of that I have no doubt. :D I'm sure it will be posted here, as well as the Assembly of Guilds forum and maybe the DRC forums.
