To teach new writers in GoW could we possibly have Ages that teach them some principles, for example...

I have designed some that demonstrate the following principles:
Presentation
Puzzles
History
Nature
Complexity

Granted, I don't know how to use Blender, or any of the other programs, tools, etc. but I think the principles that go into World Building in general (For example HL2's Hammer program), still apply.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I like.

Of course each of those is an enormous topic, which could never be fully explained, only given by example...

There's also room for a lot of very technical lessons -- here's how to make a nice fountain, step by step. (Maybe even five fountains in a row, with texture layers added one at a time.)

Maybe there could even be a global "room" created by the GoW, in D'ni style so it looks nice, in which any writer is allowed to create their own lessons. There would be a large space in the middle of the room for the object or focus of the lesson, and imagers around it to display text to teach you.

I don't know, I'm just throwing out ideas. :D

There are a series of age building tutorials on the Alcugs Wiki. They teach you how to add various features to your age that are currently supported.

Is this what you were looking for? Or did you want something more in cavern?

Kind of both, really. Something tangible and somewhat IC, while at the same time demostrating principles and ideas that can be taken both IC and OOC. In the final Age of the lesson, I was thinking of a library that contained both IC Books of Commentary, and OOC Technical Books, explaining how to do various things.

For example:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prinicple of History

---> The Age existed before the Descriptive Book was written.
Were there people there at some point?
+If so, what did they build?
+If not, why would a civilization not arise in the Age?

---> What kind of events have occurred to the planet?
Asteroid impact for example.
+What did it do to the environment?

What have you built into the Age, and what was/is it purpose?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These things can be taken both IC and OOC for the most part.

The point of the Lesson Ages would be a hands on demonstration of what the outcome of certain actions would look like, while teaching how to do something.

What would probably be the best example would be what inspired me, Myst 3 and its Ages of J'nanin, Amateria, Voltaic, Edanna, and Narayan. Each had principles that were taught through hands on interactivity.

In other words, an age that you can experience as you would other ages, but at the same time learn about how to create a believable age (and, as you said, possibly technical explanations at the end).

Well, I like the idea!

This is a fantastic idea.

Perhaps these can be some of the first Ages undertaken by the UGoW?

Here are the Age names and their Principles:

Ehrehm - Demonstration Age, Entrance Age of Lessons

Halren Kotsah - Hub World, Demonstrates Principle of Presentation

Doyhah - Age of Machines, Demonstrates Principle of Puzzles
Aria Rihlrovtee - Age of Lost Civilizations, Demonstrates Principle of History
Ahnotam - Age of Nature, Demonstrates Principle of Nature
Lenah Bishta - Age of Journeys, Demonstrates Principle of Complexity

Jeruth - Age of Possibility, Summation of Principles, contains books on these principles (Both Technical (OOC) and Commentary (IC).

What do you think?

Note: There are other principles that are minor and are integrated into the major Ages.

Do you have these areas mapped out (on paper or otherwise)? Or just the concepts?

I had the original Ages mapped out, but these ones are updated, I should have them mapped out in no time though, since all I would be doing is updating the maps as well.

I think that's a spectacular idea. Mostly because it's a fusion of IC and OCC meta-concepts which are indicative of the D'ni love for Rube Goldberg-style complex machinery, but also for the Cyan standard for problem solving and puzzles.

I think one of the most important aspects of creating your own ages will be ensuring they mesh with the standards set forth by all of the existing ages. Even the most unique ages should be grounded in these concepts.

-->Lontahv. Can you post a picture please, I am very facinated with seeing this in form.

-->MustardJeep. Yes, the Ages in Exile are very inspiring for lessons being taught in hands-on environments.

The majority of the designs for the primary Age, Ehrehm, are almost finalized.
