So again it would be great if we can find a way that we can easy find all the important information on these forums.

It would be a start if just one admin, or one moderator who believes access to information is important relentlessly nags an admin, could acknowledge and fix the oft-reported broken but never fixed search index which got munged during the server move. So much information is now unsearchable and unfindable because this has gone unfixed. Please rebuild the search index.

Relentless nagging is not the choice we want to resolve the problems.
As I mentioned before we can start a new thread for this

Per Veralun's suggestion, here's the thread. But it has been mentioned plenty of times before:

http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15638

http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15507

http://www.mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15260

Let's hope for a quick resolution to make all the valuable and historical references within these forums quickly accessible again.

Well, I could be contrary and say that it's our own fault for letting those previous threads slide into obscurity. 8)

All of those threads start with April 4 or later... which we know to be around the time of MOUL shutting down, and then Greydragon moving on. That means the only person likely at any time to rebuild the forum index would be (da-dun) Chogon, unless Tweek or amonre have the necessary permissions.

Personally, I'd rather not pester Chogon with rebuilding the forum index. But if he can delegate the task to one of the interns, or if he'd be willing to trust someone else with lots of phpBB administering experience, then that might be a winning proposition.

Chogon & I discussed the possibility of a fix for the broken search function not long after I noticed it.

He looked into what would be involved & determined it would need more time than what Cyan could afford & possibly some sort of software fix, which definitely wasn't in the budget for the foreseeable future.

I don't know if these circumstances have changed (my guess is they haven't) but I agree not having the functionality is a pain in the patootie.....

I've used Forums with broken searches for years now. What's wrong with using Google as a work-around?

Use this code:

site:http://www.mystonline.com/forums/ STUFF

substitute your search string (i.e. -kelvin -kadish "rashes on" radish) for STUFF

They make search rebuilder mods for phpBB, and they're free. Somebody should install and run them.

Just for fun, I tried a Google search for "UCC" and got this result:

Searched for: site:http://www.mystonline.com/forums/UCC
Result: Your search - site:http://www.mystonline.com/forums/UCC - did not match any documents.

or this: after removing the word site ar the beginning...
No results found for http://www.mystonline.com/forums/UCC.

Finally I got better results with.....
site:http://www.mystonline.com/forums/ +UCC

VIP: notice the needed space before the " + " sign

Artic, you do not need the + sign but you do need the space. That is why your first search went wrong.

It works exactly as Ed posted. He included a space between the URL and STUFF.

Thanks for the lesson D'Lanor. Due to disminished old age eyesight, I never saw the space.
