I am collecting these on the chance Cyan agrees to a meeting with us.

only 2 questions:

1. When we run our own shard, can we make our own Storyline there or are we still restricted in some terms?
2. Will the Open Source URU run on the mac too? Since its based on MOUL i hope it does.

Greetings,
Dhel

What will replace the Cyan auth / file / data servers, ie how will we get to a shard?

The first and foremost question in my mind is:

What open source license will Uru be released under, and what components does this license cover (as in the engine, story/plot, age models, server code, etc.)?

Will Cyan still be in control over what happens to a certain extent?

What will the requirements for running a shard/server be, compared with UU?

Does the open source include the Uru 3DS Models?

What role does Cyan want/expect to play?
How free would explorers be to experiment?
What is a reasonable time-frame for Uru to come back online?

  • How will closed-source third-party components of the code be handled, like PhysX or Cider? (I'm particularly interested in Cider since that's what's going to keep me going until we have a native Mac client. Will I be able to just drop a self-compiled UruExplorer.exe into my MOUL bundle?)
  • As far as I understand the announcement, the MOUL ages will not be included in the open source release (but be available from Cyan's data server, probably at no charge). Where will the separation between (restricted) "content" and (open-source) "code" lie? On which side do, for example, the KI or the avatar fall?

Why did we have to hear about this second hand? I am not usually one to criticize Cyan, but it seems like an announcement on this forum, directly to its most loyal fans, would have been the best way for the initial news to be released.

Perhaps they have obligations to others, we fans aren't the center of the universe ;)

In the past Cyan have given news to Mr Sowa and held off announcing it on the site to give him an "exclusive" so to speak, not to mention that fans can move very fast at times, theres been several times when fans have found something out before Cyan/GT/Ubi have been ready to annouce it.

Besides the announcement was posted up on the MOUL site not long after anyway.

I'm of the opinion the news is more important than the manner it arrived in.

Is PhysX close source now? I know nvidia took it under their wing but originally it was an open source engine I think.
