The Lost Library of D'ni

From the "Words of the Watcher's" tab...
Quote:
One of the D'ni women who was being evacuated was rumored to have given birth in mid-link while on her way to D'ni. The baby boy who was delivered under such strange circumstances was said to have the ability to see beyond time. He grew up to become a mystic prophet known as the Watcher.

Thank you for the links, korovev!

A note that the Guild of Cartographers site is still up, albeit with no updates since 2015.

The Guild Of Greeters site http://www.greetersguild.com/ (Note the URL spelling) is sometimes up, as it is at the moment, though occasionally TECH has to be tracked down in another game when the site goes down.

This is still a good site for information, but it isn't frequented as much, so if you are looking to ask a new question you are more likely to get quick answers here.

I find it a shame that the Guild Of Greeters site is lost (with possible exception to the wayback machine). None of the Greeters' links I have tried in the past couple of days have worked, with exception to the New Greeters' site, but even then, the info the original Greeters site had is not on there.

I also found the Guild Of Messengers links to be broken, except for Korovev's link above (dated 12th Jan 2019), so hopefully, all is not lost there.

As I've said before on this forum, the Sleeper's site is not going away, and I am adding reading material images from Obduction and will add material from Firmament when that game is released. The MOULa info and tips are still on there, now renamed to "Uru" to match the placement for the game. The idea behind adding the Obduction material, is to aid you as you play the game. Admittedly, I could have, and should have, added these images long before now. I'll be more prompt with Firmament.

If anyone has any suggestion for the Sleepers site, I welcome them via PM.

Hopefully someone can track down Tech, or he notices that the site is down again, and he'll restart it.
(It would be REALLY helpful if we had a contact address...)

Older versions of the website are archived here and here.

A footnote to the Avatar Face Shot page: the portraits are stored in %LocalAppData%\Uru Live\Avatars and can be replaced with any 512×512 jpeg images, named with the avatar KI#.

I used to run into Tech in Guild Wars 2 often enough that I could remind him to restart the Guild of Greeters forum. He and Mite have moved on to another game, so I don't see them very often.

I've also become less assiduous about checking the site because there is almost no apparent use. Rex and I occasionally exchanged haiku, but that's about it for the last few years. I understand that using it as a resource won't be reflected in posting activity, but when it takes months for people to (apparently) notice that it's down, my thoughts turn to wondering if it's worth the bother.

This is the general problem with cloud storage that no one talks about. When the cloud evaporates, your data goes with it. Most of my personal Uru history has been lost as forums have been turned off. I didn't think to archive any of it.

I've also thought that it's not worth keeping the site up, and I even let the domain name expire a few years ago, but made the effort to get it back. It still amazes me that the Sleepers site gets a couple of hundred hits each week (in internet terms, that's nothing) so hopefully someone is still looking at it.

If Weebly, who I host the Sleepers site on, were to go bust, I have all the info backed up and can relaunch it on a different host.

I'd say, never give up. The greeters site is missed, by me if no-one else. I do understand though why people are not motivated to maintain their sites.

For me it's in "C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Uru Live\Avatars" (Windows 7 Family Premium Edition SP1 x64).

I talked with Mite in Guild Wars 2 a few days ago, and mentioned that the Guild of Greeters forum was down. She told Tech, and the site is up now.

Could we add D'ni Art Archive to the list?
