On 2007 Jan 13, a group of Explorers met in A Beginner's Bevin.
The raw chatlog of the event (all 1806 lines/32 pages of it) are here.

The facilitator has put together a summary (itself 10 pages) here.

Any attempt to determine findings from the meeting will have to wait for more community feedback on the chatlog.

For anyone that was at the meeting or has comments based on the chatlog, please feel free to provide feedback.

I would like to thank everyone that participated in this meeting. It was interesting.

Excellent, Butch. That took a lot of work and it is very comprehensive.
Thanks.

Seconded! Thanks so much for organizing that - from reading the summary, it sounds like it was very valuable - and for compiling it so those like me who couldn't attend could read it. /cheer

I just wanted to point out real quick that the topic title states "Dec 13", not "Jan 13th"

;)

32 pages?

I'll go with the summary.

Thank you, zam.
After wading through the meeting and then the transcript, my eyes were crossed.

The summary is very clear and coherent, and it sounds like valuable discussion is taking place. (Yes, I am being a passive-voice weenie. Sorry.)

I never followed the whole Liaison situation, so this was good background information for me as well.

Isn't this jumping the gun a bit? The story isn't started. Aside from regaining content we already had there is nothing going on. We have no idea how the DRC will truly operate. In fact since there really is no DRC at the moment the DRCL should be inactive. Cyan is busy creating content and writing future story events... for the future. There is not much focus on the cavern at least on this server just yet.

When the game launches we will know what direction everything is going from Cyan's goals and we can then mold ours around them. We have no idea what concessions from Cyan will be made to accommodate groups within the game. The neighborhood system is vastly incomplete and already confirmed it is due for a major overhaul.

I think we need to slow down and remember that the game isn't actually going yet. We have no idea what it truely will be like once it is. We may think we know, but we don't actually know :)

This is a game and it is meant for fun. We need to do a better job of keeping that in mind.

A interesting summary, and once I have a hour or so to really go over it I will probably read the raw log.

Till then.

While you have a good point that things haven't really started yet, I really liked this idea of starting things now. This is obviously going to take time before it becomes useful, so why not go ahead and get started now? We can get some basic ideas out there, some tentative plans in place, and then have an idea where to go as things change.

As you can see from the summary, this is a very very early discussion on things. Aside from universally agreeing that we need more respect for each other in the community, there wasn't a lot of unison in that meeting. But it was a good chance to get ideas out there, and get people started thinking what we can do. I like it. :)

I am going to beg your indulgence and ask your permission to disagree with you. You have every right to disagree with me and my actions.

As the meeting is over and the log and summary are posted, I'm a little more comfortable speaking my own mind.

You are correct, the product is still in Beta. And we just don't know what our community is going to be asked to do once a real launch happens.
But the community is not in Beta. The people following the events in and around the game are not in Beta. They are paying, or will be, to play THIS game. Not just any game, this game. Myst, Uru.
Thus I held a meeting and invited everyone to share their thoughts on some topics to see how they felt. Because I felt we weren't talking to each other as a community.

Trust, Respect and Consensus.

This is what I find people wanting from this community. That is what I believed before the meeting. That is what I heard in the meeting.

I still invite our community to voice their opinion about the meeting, the transcript and the summary. Am I right in my commentary? Am I wrong I wrong in my commentary? Why do we seem to be challenged in coming together as a community, in the cavern, out of the cavern, playing a game? What can we do to make things better?

And, BlueLightNight, I would like to thank you for expressing your feelings on this matter.

After reading these last posts, the first idea that came to my mind
was: Maybe BlueLightNight could create a new group.
Title suggestion for this new group...The Slackers.

My intent here should be seen as "a friendly and funny suggestion"
:P

I appreciate the time and effort that was expended to summarize the meeting. Thanks, Butch. It was helpful for me as I don't have time to go through the whole transcript and sort out comments that I am personally interested in. The line numbers provided were especially helpful.

:)
